  1. The usefulness of the OmniSearch box in Leap would be greatly enhanced by the addition of operators and Power Search (CCL) features so an experienced Polaris user could execute their search right away, in the OmniSearch, and get the results back in a Find Tool. As it is, if I want to search for, say, an item record, I need to:

    1. Click Find to launch the Find Tool
    2. Change the search type to Item Records
    3. Change whatever parameters I need to change after that.
    4. Maybe add a filter or two and then apply those filters
    5. Go back to the Find…

  2. As libraries move away from using gateways to send text messages we would like to make the wireless carrier field optional.

  3. It's possible the Description and Comments configured for MARC validation display somewhere else already, but it would be nice if there were a couple of buttons to display that data in the MARC tooltips. The Description would be helpful for any tags that aren't used regularly or for staff with limited familiarity with MARC formats while the Comments could be useful in communicating local cataloging policies. Bonus points if we could allow staff with the appropriate permissions to edit the Description and Comments directly in the tooltip. It's not a particularly good example, but you could include something like "Please…

  4. We use ChiliFresh as a source for cover images and we also use their service to upload custom images for missing covers, kits, etc. After the MARC record is updated with the custom image tag, the new image shows up in the PowerPAC immediately. However, it never shows up in Leap. Leap is already pulling images from ChiliFresh (as well as other sources) for the cover images in Leap's item and bib records. It's really weird that it doesn't pull from the same source to get the custom image attached to the record.

  5. The author quotes in Polaris Leap suddenly became a hot topic because of a Neil Gaiman quote within the list. While making some adjustments, it occurred to me that there are more possibilities for those Leap quotes and that they could be used to convey real information to the staff about things like upcoming Polaris upgrades, library events, and so on. At the very least, changing the quotes in WebAdmin is a bit of a pain because you have to change a quote and an author separately.

My idea is that the quotes should be added to SA, where they're…

  6. Polaris currently (as of 7.8) offers some limited customization of which fields in the patron registration form in Leap are required to save a record.

When the "Name on ID" fields were introduced several releases ago (7.2?) we were excited. However, the way the feature was implemented meant that the primary name fields were now the "preferred name" fields and were required to be filled out in order to save a record. However, a record could be saved without recording a name on ID.

Our broader city government did not like us dropping the requirement to capture patrons' legal names,…

  7. In the Item reports, some general filters categories, such as Stat Code, have a Not Present option. This allows staff to report by Collection Code or Material Type and exclude unwanted Stat Codes. It would be helpful to have the same option to exclude Shelf Locations.

  8. Provide staff with a single click option in Leap to find titles on shelf at the location they are currently logged in under. Many staff default to using the PAC for its Available Now option - which is great but, is problematic if a customer doesn't have their card and/or doesn't know their password. While we can emulate the Available now search in Leap thru filters or saved search parameters, even accessing those saved searches can take several clicks. Offering an available or here now button would make this much faster and would be used very often

  9. No that we have migrated from Sierra to Polaris, the call number field is not included in the SIP response when using an inventory wand. At this point we only see the barcode and title of an item, which makes it more difficult to find identified items.

  10. When you create a search to then send to record set we would like option to go Back to Search. Sometimes we only grab part of the initial results into a record set and we would like to go back to the larger list to grab additional items to add into a completely different record set.

Some lists are too long or we want them split up for multiple staff to manage and having these results in different record sets helps with that.

  11. Staff would like to be able to bulk change a patron's pickup branch for selected (or all) holds on the patron's account. Be they holds already trapped, suspended or active. We often have patrons that move from one part of the area to another and need to change their holds to reflect their new pickup branch. Having to change one hold at a time is tedious.

  12. When declaring an item lost on a customer account, there is no way to add more to the note on the resulting lost item charge. All that is in the note field is "Declared Lost". It is sometimes important to give more context to the charge and that is why being able to add a note would help!

  13. Please combine the items and the statistics on the bib record into one section so that we can see circ stats and item status without having to click multiple areas. We need this data to help us determine whether an item should be transferred from another branch, repaired, or replaced. Attached is how it looks in Staff Client, and it would be great if we could see this view in LEAP.

  14. When doing a bibliographic record search, you can filter by Collection (which is only assigned at the item level) but not by Statistical Code (which is also only assigned on the item level).

It would be helpful to have the option to filter by stat code as well.

  15. We have noticed an uptick in libraries circulating items on on-order records despite it violating consortia policy. We would like to see the text of on-order records (or even just specific fields) be in a different color to help provide a visual indicator of the record type.

  16. It would be really helpful for fixing rollups if you could pick records to compare directly from the Find Tool instead of opening one record and then running a search again to find records to compare!

  17. Label printing can be a limited function in a large library system, using specialized printers to perform the task. Consistency is also important in the spine label. By being able to control access to this utility, it will ensure a better spine label product across a library system.

  18. Currently, there is no way to adjust receipts. We only have the option of which fields and we are not allowed to put those fields in an order that suits our workflow. We would love to see Leap have a WYSIWYG editor so each library can configure font size, fields, etc. for each receipt.

  19. We have locations that would like greater options for customizing checkout receipts. In particular, they would like to add an image at the bottom -- a library logo, or a graphic version of the library name, or a periodically changeable "word bubble" graphic promoting upcoming activities at the library.

  20. In the Client, there are undo and redo buttons. The undo button is particularly useful when someone has made a mistake. It quickly allows staff to correct the mistake by pressing a single button. When training technical services staff to use Leap, this button is clearly missed. Having this button will make the transition to Leap easier. Questions and comments about the lack of the undo button are common during training.
