  1. It would be great if staff could create a record set of patrons to delete and a supervisor could review them before deletion, similar to how item records can be reviewed in a record set by a supervisor before deletion.

  2. In our Retain/Delete table we remove certain subject headings with specific indicators. When we save a Bib record, the Remote Authority Control checks EVERY heading then removes the tags marked for deletion and checks the headings again.

It'd be more efficient, time-wise, if Polaris deleted the tags first, then perform the Remote Authority Control.

  3. We are upgrading to 7.4 soon and noticed that one of the new features (from 7.3) was the ability to cancel held holds. These seem to display really nicely in Leap (especially with the holds to action tab), but the display in the Polaris client could be improved. Currently, it seems like these cancelled holds just get added to the cancelled view which does not give any indication that the item was on the hold shelf and needs to be pulled/checked in.

I would like to see either a canned report that lists all held holds that were cancelled at…

  4. All use of Secure patron when customer has checkouts, holds, etc.

The secure patron function in Leap does almost exactly what we need for what we call suspended patrons (those not allowed on library property) - it blocks a customer's record and provides a clear, visual indicator that the account has been secured.

I can't use it though and had to create a workaround to accomplish much the same thing because Secure Patron is only an option when the patron has no account activity. This makes no sense and renders the function unusable.

  5. This proposal outlines an extension to the Patron Validation API to include an optional serviceName parameter. When provided, this value will be recorded in the Integrated Library System (ILS) transaction log, allowing us to track which service initiates each patron validation request.

Currently, the ILS transaction log records patron validations without capturing which service initiated the request. This lack of context makes it difficult to analyze traffic from third-party services (e.g., OverDrive, Hoopla) or internal applications, troubleshoot validation spikes, and make informed decisions about service contracts and resource allocation.

The proposed solution is to modify the Patron Validation API to…

  6. It would be useful to have in the item history when a hold was activated. I had an instance where an item was put on hold for the wrong account, and it would have been useful to see who had placed the hold or where it had been added. I figure you can see this from the hold record, but the staff member who had received the accidental holds cancelled them before we got a chance to look at it.

  7. It would be nice to be able to add captcha (or something similar) as added protection to Self-Registration through the PAC. It would ensure that a human is actually entering the information on the other end rather than a bot. An uptick of suspicious registrations is eating into valuable staff time and we would like to be able to add a layer of protection to our Self-Registration process.

  9. Currently you can search hold requests by pickup location.
Libraries would also like to search the hold requests by pickup areas.

  11. A patron was using their former barcode to try to do a password reset, and before we realized what the issue was, the system told them they 'had no email address' associated with that account. It would be more helpful if the system told them the barcode was invalid or, even better, that they were using an old barcode.

  12. Hold duplicate detection has a flaw that allows duplicate hold requests to be placed on the same titles. The detection seems to apply on title and author information stored with the hold request (apparently on the SysHoldRequestSearchTerms table), which stores point-in-time title/author details that may change if the bib record is overlayed or edited.

This idea is for improving the duplicate detection to fix this gap, but also any similar gaps I may be missing where title-related data is stored separately when the hold is created, and referenced by the dupe detection (I'm not seeing separate tables storing elements like…

  13. We were told that in order to activate volume level requests in the PAC and in Vega, we would have to turn off the ability for item level requests to be placed, since it's an either or setting (see attached). However, we need to be able to offer our patrons both options. In the case of volume level requests, we can't have patrons getting a random volume that they might not even want when they place a title level hold. Since we also have patrons that use item level requesting, we can't just turn that off in favor of volume…

  14. Indian Trails Library has had a large flux in separated families with parents living in two different library districts. The parents want to keep their accounts separate. According to IL these children are entitled to have a library card with each parent when they reside at both addresses.

Also, we have several members with two properties in different library districts. A few times now the accounts were merged and the members have been upset with the library even though we placed notes on the member's account not to merge the accounts.

A "Do Not Merge" checkbox added to the Registration…

  15. When using the filter box in a Leap workform (for example, in Reading History, Out, holds or really anywhere you have ability to filter a view), please add an indicator of how many items are caught in the filter. For ex. a customer has 85 items checked out and wants to know how many DVDs they still have out. Typing DVD into filter reduces the list but doesn't tell you how many DVDs there are. The only option is count them.

  16. Opening Day Collection orders are created when large numbers of new books and videos are needed to either create an entirely new collection for a branch or to partially replace a collection. Large orders tend to produce large quantities of invoices; for this reason, streamlining all possible aspects of invoice payments is essential to help expedite payments for these orders. It would be very helpful to all libraries if Polaris offered functionality to assign a specific cataloging fund to Opening Day Collection orders. The new functionality would save libraries significant labor when paying invoices for these orders without affecting regular…

  17. The Damaged feature in Polaris 7.5 was implemented without a permission to enable libraries to turn it off if they prefer their existing procedure. Because we can't turn it off and we have several hundred staff members, many new, all of whom do not have all our procedures memorized, some of the staff now use the Damage feature. This means that we now need a report to catch these transactions and extra staff time to undo them. To try to mitigate, we changed the string "Damaged" to "Do not use". It would be much preferred if a permission would allow…

  20. I propose an enhancement to the SIP2 protocol: including the "PA[PickupAreaDescription]" extension in the Item Info response (18). Currently, this valuable extension is only available in the check-in response. The key issue with the current setup is that when systems attempt a check-in to obtain the "PA" value, the check-in process completes, which can prematurely finalize item handling without allowing the system to decide if a check-in should be initiated based on the item's status or location.

Integrating the "PA" extension into the Item Info response would allow library systems to efficiently determine whether a check-in is necessary for items…
