  1. Currently in Leap when checking out an item - if that item has an item specific hold on it for a patron - it does not provide a pop up or warning if you try to check out that item to another patron. In Polaris it would warn you that there was an existing hold on that copy. This was a very useful notice for circulation staff.

  2. When using the filter box in a Leap workform (for example, in Reading History, Out, holds or really anywhere you have ability to filter a view), please add an indicator of how many items are caught in the filter. For ex. a customer has 85 items checked out and wants to know how many DVDs they still have out. Typing DVD into filter reduces the list but doesn't tell you how many DVDs there are. The only option is count them.

  3. Today I helped a customer who had three Lost (and billed) items on her account. The items were all designated as Deleted as well. She claimed that she had returned two of the three items through our Automated Materials Handler (AMH) some time ago. The items were set to lost in 2022. The third item she had and returned today. This item having been deleted shows up in Leap as a "no matching record" (NMR) item. And that got me thinking that she may very well have returned the other two items through our AMH and because they read as…

  4. We're working with a vendor to import patron records into Polaris as part of a program to give every student of the local school district a library card. As part of the arrangement, these student cards will be exempt from billing.

Unfortunately, there is no means to check the "exclude from" overdues, billing, etc. boxes in the API, so this will have to be done manually every time a new batch of students is imported. Please make it possible to modify these options via API.

  5. A patron said that it would be useful if they could see, as a logged-in patron, holds that had been cancelled due to them not coming to pick them up in time. It would be great if this also allowed patrons to reactivate the hold from there. Thank you for considering this.

  6. Adding this to PAPI would allow this process to be performed without SQL access and also fully leverage all of the existing Polaris business logic. It would also allow hosted customers to utilize the functionality.

  7. Presently in the Polaris client there are two paths to updating a branch's hours of operation in the Administration Explorer. The first is to access the table in the SA path Parameters > Patron Services > Hours of Operations; the second is to right-click the branch name, choose to edit it, and in the new window that opens go to the Tools menu and choose 'Define Hours of Operation'. The first of these two approaches requires the permission 'Modify parameters: Allow', and the second does not.

We rely on staff being able to use the second approach for editing hours…

  8. The option to link headings from a bib in Leap was a needed improvement, but there are still issues which hinder the feasibility of cataloging in Leap.

When using the "check headings" feature, the search defaults to the local database. When you switch to searching remote databases, the search term is deleted, meaning that you have to copy and paste or retype the search. It would be very helpful if the "Authority Record" and "Authority Record (remote databases)" options were combined. Ideally, I would see a single Authority Record search option which defaults to local records but gives the option…

  9. Record set printing is often a mystery -

I often need to print a List View, but the printed result is very unpredictable.
Sometimes it turns out how I want, but other times the page is limited to the top of the page (see attached photo), and 3 times as many pages print since the whole page size isn't utilized. It seems to depend on the size of the columns and how many are hidden, etc, but I can't be sure what factors make it work.

The best workaround seems to be printing to pdf, checking it, and then printing…

  10. Add 'Patron Record is Secured' to Report Output Column in Patron List Reports in Simply Reports. Available as a Patron Miscellaneous Filter but not as an output.

Secured patrons are patrons with a record status = 3. It is possible through SimplyReports content administration to add the RecordStatusID column from the Patrons table to the list of output columns.

I'm putting this idea under review because the RecordStatusID isn't exactly what was requested here. But I wanted to share that it may provide a workaround.

  11. Post OverDue notices to the database without printing them. We have libraries that are not regularly printing and posting to the database overdue notices so items move in the system to missing and withdrawn before some libraries ever send out a notice. Some libraries haven't sent them in 1-3 years. So, I want to post them and then email a pdf on the overdues automatically on the first of every month.

  12. There are a few scenarios where staff don't remember their exact password and get themselves locked out of LEAP: they are adjunct staff who work infrequently, they have just returned from a long vacation, or simply have brain freeze. In these cases, they open a support ticket, and I would like to be able to reset their account so that they can log in immediately, the same way I can now clear an object lock on an item that someone needs to use. Thanks for considering!

  13. When you are logging into Leap on a machine where you've already logged in, a cookie is set that pre-fills the Branch and workstation. However, you canNOT simply hit enter to continue through this screen because the focus is on the workstation drop down.

This is a request to make it focus on the Continue button when you've already logged in on this browser to make the login process more seamless.

  14. On the information page for an ILL, there should be the ability to see what staff have interacted with the ILL or if a patron has made a change. We had an ILL get cancelled before it arrived to our library, but we can't tell if it was a staff initiation or a patron one. In the record for a regular item, I can see who has done what with a hold. This would be useful for follow up.

  16. Adding the ability to add / update the Polaris username field as an alternative barcode for students/patrons would be hugely beneficial in the import process. This would allow us to have a student ID as a barcode and a former library barcode for patrons to use at the expresscheck.

  17. We use only two call number schemes in item records, either “Dewey Decimal” or “Other”. I wonder if it is possible to hide the rest of the schemes from the dropdown menu in item records. This will reduce the chances of accidental selection of an incorrect scheme.

  18. The Language field was added to Polaris in 7.4 (I believe). The only way to update the Language field is to manually update each item record manually. As you can imagine, that is very time-consuming. It would be ideal if our Collection Management department could pull the appropriate item records into a record set and then do a batch update of the Language field.

  19. When entering new accounts in to LEAP, we enter the patron zip code and the city is automatically filled out. At Phoenix libraries, if the city is not Phoenix, we have to remember to change the patron code to Maricopa and the expiration date to only one year. Could these 2 fields also be automatically filled out by the zip code information. It would save a lot of jumping from the top of the registration form to the bottom and back...and could save mistakes when we have a LOT of outreach library card forms to enter.

  20. Currently you can search hold requests by pickup location.
Libraries would also like to search the hold requests by pickup areas.
