  1. We currently have the ability to set the default status for the 3 request manager views but it would be great to be able to set a default VIEW for request manager to open in as well. At our library, Request Manager is intensively used for receiving incoming INN-Reach requests (ILL view) and it would save time if we could make that the default view.

  3. We would like to be able to have more options for configuring the Hold Pickup Slip. Our current hold pickup slip is printed using an older piece of Bibliotheca RFID software that is no longer supported. The software allows us to configure the position, orientation and font size of each element on the hold slip. We are also able to select the number of characters to print for each of those elements, for example, first 3 characters of the last name, first character of the first name, etc.

  4. We're working with a vendor to import patron records into Polaris as part of a program to give every student of the local school district a library card. As part of the arrangement, these student cards will be exempt from billing.

    Unfortunately, there is no means to check the "exclude from" overdues, billing, etc. boxes in the API, so this will have to be done manually every time a new batch of students is imported. Please make it possible to modify these options via API.

  5. In our Retain/Delete table we remove certain subject headings with specific indicators. When we save a Bib record, the Remote Authority Control checks EVERY heading then removes the tags marked for deletion and checks the headings again.

    It'd be more efficient, time-wise, if Polaris deleted the tags first, then perform the Remote Authority Control.

  6. We are part of a state-wide consortium and the holds count for titles in PowerPAC displays total number of holds for the consortium, making it look like a very long wait for a popular title. If we have purchased Advantage copies of this title, we would like the Advantage holds to display to patrons instead of consortium-wide holds.

    As an example: With the release of the Christopher Nolan movie "Oppenheimer", everyone was interested in the book that it's based on, American Prometheus. When we searched for "American Prometheus" in PowerPAC, we saw that there were 452 holds on only 10…

  7. Per the Polaris support team as of September 2023, SIP2 only supports communication about holds where the associated item is in "Held" status. Holds requests in other statuses are 'invisible' to third-party services communicating with Polaris through SIP. When I brought this up, our site manager recommended putting in an enhancement request. Apparently there were some older ones on IdeaLab that have not been carried over to Idea Exchange.

    I was skeptical that there would be anything Clarivate could do from within an ILS to make this change since it sounded like a SIP limitation rather than an ILS limitation,…

  8. Since record sets have 2-level deletion, like bibs, items, and authorities, the RecordSets table should have a RecordStatusDate column.

    When using the 2-level deletion to manage record clean-up, it is usual to purge records that have been deleted for a certain amount of time, but without the deletion date it is harder to determine. Because the modification date of deleted record sets is still updated by some actions taken on the records in the set (e.g. merging over a record), the only way to determine the deletion is by querying the transactions database.

  9. We would like Polaris to offer the option for libraries to transition items with a Circulation Status of Being Repaired to Missing or Withdrawn after a specified number of days. We envision this working like Lost Item Transition and Missing Item Transition.

    Adding this feature would allow for a more streamlined process for cleaning up, and eventually withdrawing/deleting, item records.

  10. Please add in the ability to create and edit publication pattern templates within Leap. As my consortium shifts to using only Leap, I am discovering small things that seem to be missing, which make it difficult for staff to fully switch over to Leap. One of those things is the ability to create a publication pattern template. As of version 7.8, this is something that still has to be done in the toolbar (https://documentation.iii.com/polaris/7.8/Default.htm#PolarisStaffHelp/Serials/PSsetup/Creating_Publication_Pattern_Templates.htm). You can use publication pattern templates within Leap, but you can't currently create a new one or edit existing ones.

  11. On the information page for an ILL, there should be the ability to see what staff have interacted with the ILL or if a patron has made a change. We had an ILL get cancelled before it arrived to our library, but we can't tell if it was a staff initiation or a patron one. In the record for a regular item, I can see who has done what with a hold. This would be useful for follow up.

  12. Currently, when we need to edit a serial's status, it has to be done one at a time. We have multiple branches that all are scheduled to receive the same issue of a magazine. When the expected issue isn't published, due to a double or special issue instead, we have to edit each serial's status individually to "Never published". Adding serial specific fields where appropriate to bulk item edit would help this.

  13. Adding the ability to add / update the Polaris username field as an alternative barcode for students/patrons would be hugely beneficial in the import process. This would allow us to have a student ID as a barcode and a former library barcode for patrons to use at the expresscheck.

  14. We use only two call number schemes in item records, either “Dewey Decimal” or “Other”. I wonder if it is possible to hide the rest of the schemes from the dropdown menu in item records. This will reduce the chances of accidental selection of an incorrect scheme.

  15. When entering new accounts in to LEAP, we enter the patron zip code and the city is automatically filled out. At Phoenix libraries, if the city is not Phoenix, we have to remember to change the patron code to Maricopa and the expiration date to only one year. Could these 2 fields also be automatically filled out by the zip code information. It would save a lot of jumping from the top of the registration form to the bottom and back...and could save mistakes when we have a LOT of outreach library card forms to enter.

  16. Have the Call Number (082 #a) drop into the Classification field in the Item Record when the item moves from On Order to Received.

    This function would most benefit staff who catalogue (or import full catalogue records) and then manage the Purchase Order process.

    The goal is to reduce the room for error when adding items.

  17. It would be helpful if we could search using the Find Tool for items with a Last Activity Date. Last circulated is a search option, and Last activity is a column option to display, but I have yet found a way to use it in my search criteria.

  18. Most of our libraries loan the library of things and museum passes to their own patrons. However, since all members use Adult Resident patron code for their resident patrons, it is not possible to limit materials to their own patrons. Could a checkout setting be added to the item records, similar to the hold setting "patrons from this library and branches" and "x days past first available".

  19. A consistent piece of feedback we get from front-line staff is that patrons struggle to find where to turn on Reading History and that they themselves often forget where it is located. Having it buried within "My Record"-->"Contact Information and Preferences" and having to scroll down to it apparently is not effective. Having the "Reading History" tab always visible under the patron's name on the left-hand menu would be more effective, instead of having it only appear once Reading History has already been turned on.

  20. Currently in Leap when checking out an item - if that item has an item specific hold on it for a patron - it does not provide a pop up or warning if you try to check out that item to another patron. In Polaris it would warn you that there was an existing hold on that copy. This was a very useful notice for circulation staff.
