  1. We would like to have to option for claims returned items to automatically go to Lost after a set time and adding bill to the patron.

  2. Patrons are confused by items that don't autorenew. The receipt lists the items out, the due dates, and the "potential" renewals. But if an item doesn't autorenew the patron doesn't realize it. It's causing patrons to accrue fines because they assume their items have autorenewed. It would be lovely if the email could list items that were autorenewed, items that were NOT autorenewed, then other items checked out.

  3. I know that it is planned to be able to run SQL jobs in the Web Based System Admin but that you won't be able to make changes from there, only to view data etc. I would love to be able to make changes through SQL in the System Admin and to have it be permission based.

  4. First, let me say that I think the Manage Item Records tool found on the Check In screen is good. For basic item edits, it is superior to editing via the Item Details screen in many ways. It has better permission controls, better item history logging (see attached image if you're unfamiliar with this), and allows edits to more than one item at a time (a lighter, more intuitive version of Item Bulk Changes). That said, I think a few changes could take this tool from "good" to "great".

  5. To be able to create customized circulation statuses that work for our system versus using the only given statuses. For example, the ability to create various Withdrawn - Leased, Condition, Relevancy. This would then offer additional feedback for staff when stats are ran to determine why materials were withdrawn versus they were.

    For the withdrawn example, does this really require custom circulation statuses? Or just a way to indicate/query the reason an item was withdrawn?


    The reason Polaris has traditional restricted circulation statuses is because of our automated processes around certain statuses. Using the withdrawn example, our automatic Lost/Missing to Withdrawn processing would not know about custom statuses or which one to use.


    If we reworked this enhancement as needing to be able to track/report on withdrawn reasons, we could plan for that within the automated processes.

  6. Add support for Leap direct print using QZ tray to Leap offline. That way libraries don't have to figure out something special when they are in offline mode which is already a stressful time period for them.

  7. Since moving to Vega Discover, we are finding that we are having some issues there with holds queues due to the rolled up records (I've posted an idea over there too), but it's also exacerbated by the way records show in Leap.

    Ultimately, it would be great if bibs rolled up in Leap in a similar way to Discover. Not the different formats per say, but if there is a softcover, hardcover, deluxe, and reissue of a book, it would be nice to be able to see those all together to determine circ stats for them in a combined view,…

    I want to note that we may need to split this into several smaller requests, but we can keep this open until we have a better sense of how to best to break it down.


    The BIBFRAME-based model in Vega natively handles some of this grouping. It's not really feasible for us to create BIBFRAME-based groups in Polaris right now, but some of the problems mentioned here we might be able to solve. For example, Vega Reports might offer us an opportunity to provide grouped bib stats by combining stats for MARC bibs based on Vega roll-ups.

  8. Provide staff with a single click option in Leap to find titles on shelf at the location they are currently logged in under. Many staff default to using the PAC for its Available Now option - which is great but, is problematic if a customer doesn't have their card and/or doesn't know their password. While we can emulate the Available now search in Leap thru filters or saved search parameters, even accessing those saved searches can take several clicks. Offering an available or here now button would make this much faster and would be used very often

  9. Staff are requesting that the call number be added to items that are billed on the account tab in the patron page. Right now, the main item information is Barcode/Title/Organization [branch] so they have to click to the item to see the call number when they do a shelf check. Adding the call number to this page will help staff work more efficiently by skipping having to look it up on another page.

  10. Currently, when we need to edit a serial's status, it has to be done one at a time. We have multiple branches that all are scheduled to receive the same issue of a magazine. When the expected issue isn't published, due to a double or special issue instead, we have to edit each serial's status individually to "Never published". Adding serial specific fields where appropriate to bulk item edit would help this.

  11. The Leap quick search could do a better job of searching Hispanic names. Often, patrons consider their first two names as given names, not as first and middle, which makes it difficult to search for them when they come in without their cards. For example, if I search for Luis Miguel Paco Sanchez using all four names, LEAP finds the patron. If I search for Luis Paco Sanchez or Luis + either last name individually, LEAP will not find the patron. If I search for Miguel Paco Sanchez, LEAP finds the patron.   12. In cleaning up bibliographic data after years of laissez faire cataloguing practice, we have run into a consistent stumbling block that requires us to backtrack. Certain bytes, especially in the 007 and 008 fields appear to require consistency across them to properly read at an item level (we became aware of this when getting red toasts scanning items for a weeding record set, that appeared initially to be in the inclusion criteria).

    By way of example: If you input in 007 an 01 byte of 'd - Videodisc', than the 04 byte would have to be 'g' 'h' 's' or…

  13. Our staff complete weekly and monthly checks on hold requests to ensure our customer holds are being fulfilled in a timely manner.

    To do so, staff check the hold status (Active vs Inactive), age of the hold against the hold type (item or bib level), number of available copies, and number of holds in the bib level queue. This requires staff to open item/bib records and return to the Request Manager list frequently, and can mean the review lasts over several days, making it hard to track where they were in the queue when they had to pause in the…

  14. It would be nice to be able to add captcha (or something similar) as added protection to Self-Registration through the PAC. It would ensure that a human is actually entering the information on the other end rather than a bot. An uptick of suspicious registrations is eating into valuable staff time and we would like to be able to add a layer of protection to our Self-Registration process.

  15. When doing clean up work we run into instances where we are not able to delete something like shelf locations because it is assigned to records that are in a deleted state. While we know we can just delete the records 1 more time, some of these records are tied to other things we track and would prefer to keep them in the system.

    Currently we bulk change them at the server level but would like a way to be able to do this within the ILS.

  17. For TV series that have multiple volumes, or other volumed series associated with the same Bib record, I would like it when it prompts me about which volume I would like to place a hold on, to also give me the option to place a hold on all volumes.

  18. In the Item tab of the popup window for a patron's overdue charge properties, the "Check Out date" indicates the item's last renewal date, rather than its actual check out date. A more helpful date to see would be the original check out date; this would also better suit the title for this line.

  19. When items are checked out through SIP2, Polaris includes the "You just saved __ by using the library" text in the response. However, this information is not available when using the ItemCheckout method through PAPI.

    As we start moving vendors away from SIP2 and towards PAPI, we'd like to replicate the functionality of SIP2.

  20. Across our consortium, we have some library staff who exclusively use Leap, some who exclusively use the Remote Client, and some who use both depending on the task.

    Currently, there is only one system-level setting responsible for the Visual Alert Configuration (top banner color) in Leap & the Remote Client. Unfortunately, this doesn’t work well given that Leap has a light font color and the Client has a dark font color across the top, so to achieve an ideal level of contrast for both versions simultaneously is impossible.
