  1. Today I helped a customer who had three Lost (and billed) items on her account. The items were all designated as Deleted as well. She claimed that she had returned two of the three items through our Automated Materials Handler (AMH) some time ago. The items were set to lost in 2022. The third item she had and returned today.   4. I propose an enhancement to the SIP2 protocol: including the "PA[PickupAreaDescription]" extension in the Item Info response (18). Currently, this valuable extension is only available in the check-in response. The key issue with the current setup is that when systems attempt a check-in to obtain the "PA" value, the check-in process completes, which can prematurely finalize item handling without allowing the system to decide if a check-in should be initiated based on the item's status or location.

    Integrating the "PA" extension into the Item Info response would allow library systems to efficiently determine whether a check-in is necessary for items…

  5. Add a link generator to the Record Set application. There's way too much room for error in expecting staff to create a custom URL every time we need a record set. It would make sense to have it near the Export function under the Actions menu. Thanks for considering!

  7. Have a reminder for patrons via TXT, email, telephony, mail-whatever their preference is, to remind them about their upcoming address check. Many patrons do not bring something with their current address with them when they come to the library to grab a book. This could be helpful for both staff and the patrons.

  8. Could we have it so the close button within the Patron Registration follows you as you scroll down like the "Save", "Renew", etc do? I often find myself nowhere near the top when I am done with a customer account and have to navigate all the way back up just to close the record. I could see this also being useful in Bib records

  9. Our ILL clerk would like to be able to see the due date for ILLs from the request manager, so she can make sure that the dates have been added correctly to these items. She currently has to go into each item individually to make sure they were correct.

  10. When doing clean up work we run into instances where we are not able to delete something like shelf locations because it is assigned to records that are in a deleted state. While we know we can just delete the records 1 more time, some of these records are tied to other things we track and would prefer to keep them in the system.

    Currently we bulk change them at the server level but would like a way to be able to do this within the ILS.

  11. Cataloging staff use staff cards to request items in for call number changes or various projects. It would be helpful for them to be able to add those items into a Record Set for bulk changes directly from the patron record Hold list, in lieu of individually from the item records.

  12. Provide an option to schedule bulk fee waive in records on a reoccurring basis, such as daily, monthly, or other specified intervals. At the moment you can only select one date and run it once.

  14. A patron was using their former barcode to try to do a password reset, and before we realized what the issue was, the system told them they 'had no email address' associated with that account. It would be more helpful if the system told them the barcode was invalid or, even better, that they were using an old barcode.

  15. Hold duplicate detection has a flaw that allows duplicate hold requests to be placed on the same titles. The detection seems to apply on title and author information stored with the hold request (apparently on the SysHoldRequestSearchTerms table), which stores point-in-time title/author details that may change if the bib record is overlayed or edited.

    This idea is for improving the duplicate detection to fix this gap, but also any similar gaps I may be missing where title-related data is stored separately when the hold is created, and referenced by the dupe detection (I'm not seeing separate tables storing elements like…

Currently in Leap when checking out an item - if that item has an item specific hold on it for a patron - it does not provide a pop up or warning if you try to check out that item to another patron. In Polaris it would warn you that there was an existing hold on that copy. This was a very useful notice for circulation staff.

  17. Currently, incoming requests are assigned from the INN-Reach central server to a specific copy in the catalog. If for some reason that item cannot be found or used, staff must undertake a lengthy multi-step process to transfer the item-level hold to another copy.

    Keeping the hold at the bib level and letting Polaris assign it to an item will reduce the time it takes to transfer INN-Reach holds between copies will save a lot of staff time in communicating and processing, and further will reduce delays in getting the request fulfilled and sent out.

  18. The Damaged feature in Polaris 7.5 was implemented without a permission to enable libraries to turn it off if they prefer their existing procedure. Because we can't turn it off and we have several hundred staff members, many new, all of whom do not have all our procedures memorized, some of the staff now use the Damage feature. This means that we now need a report to catch these transactions and extra staff time to undo them. To try to mitigate, we changed the string "Damaged" to "Do not use".   20. I would like to be able to adjust auto-renewals at a Patron level in addition to the item level. This would help some of our patron's who may have difficulty understanding how renewals work. This may seem silly, but we have had some cognitively impaired patrons become severely confused and upset when they think they are "wasting renewal's". Being able to adjust these settings individually at the patron record portion would be extremely helpful. Excluding them from the auto-renewal notice is a band-aid, but this causes other confusing issues with the patrons as a result.
