  1. We're working with a vendor to import patron records into Polaris as part of a program to give every student of the local school district a library card. As part of the arrangement, these student cards will be exempt from billing.

    Unfortunately, there is no means to check the "exclude from" overdues, billing, etc. boxes in the API, so this will have to be done manually every time a new batch of students is imported. Please make it possible to modify these options via API.

  2. We are part of a state-wide consortium and the holds count for titles in PowerPAC displays total number of holds for the consortium, making it look like a very long wait for a popular title. If we have purchased Advantage copies of this title, we would like the Advantage holds to display to patrons instead of consortium-wide holds.

    As an example: With the release of the Christopher Nolan movie "Oppenheimer", everyone was interested in the book that it's based on, American Prometheus. When we searched for "American Prometheus" in PowerPAC, we saw that there were 452 holds on only 10…

  3. Per the Polaris support team as of September 2023, SIP2 only supports communication about holds where the associated item is in "Held" status. Holds requests in other statuses are 'invisible' to third-party services communicating with Polaris through SIP. When I brought this up, our site manager recommended putting in an enhancement request. Apparently there were some older ones on IdeaLab that have not been carried over to Idea Exchange.

  4. Since record sets have 2-level deletion, like bibs, items, and authorities, the RecordSets table should have a RecordStatusDate column.

    When using the 2-level deletion to manage record clean-up, it is usual to purge records that have been deleted for a certain amount of time, but without the deletion date it is harder to determine. Because the modification date of deleted record sets is still updated by some actions taken on the records in the set (e.g. merging over a record), the only way to determine the deletion is by querying the transactions database.

  6. We would like to have to option for claims returned items to automatically go to Lost after a set time and adding bill to the patron.

Currently in Leap (we're on 7.8), in order to take full advantage of an item template, you have to click on Actions--Create Item (within the bib record), then add your barcode & select the template you want to use, and then click Save. If you don't click on Save, the template only populates some of the template information. It doesn't change any of the call number fields or the number of renewals, even when the option to use template values is checked.

  9. Currently, our patrons can still place holds when their card is expired and then come in to get their hold and don't realize they need to verify their address so we can renew their card. Blocking patrons from placing holds until their card has been renewed and giving them a pop-up explaining that their card has expired, would be great.

  10. When declaring an item lost on a customer account, there is no way to add more to the note on the resulting lost item charge. All that is in the note field is "Declared Lost". It is sometimes important to give more context to the charge and that is why being able to add a note would help!

  12. Adding the ability to add / update the Polaris username field as an alternative barcode for students/patrons would be hugely beneficial in the import process. This would allow us to have a student ID as a barcode and a former library barcode for patrons to use at the expresscheck.

  13. If Simply Reports had a Hold History report, where you could enter a Bibliographic Record ID and then see the history of hold requests created for that bibliographic record -- it would be most helpful when trying to see why an item wasn't automatically renewed, or was blocked from renewing.

  14. It would be helpful if we could search using the Find Tool for items with a Last Activity Date. Last circulated is a search option, and Last activity is a column option to display, but I have yet found a way to use it in my search criteria.

  15. Most of our libraries loan the library of things and museum passes to their own patrons. However, since all members use Adult Resident patron code for their resident patrons, it is not possible to limit materials to their own patrons. Could a checkout setting be added to the item records, similar to the hold setting "patrons from this library and branches" and "x days past first available".

  16. A consistent piece of feedback we get from front-line staff is that patrons struggle to find where to turn on Reading History and that they themselves often forget where it is located. Having it buried within "My Record"-->"Contact Information and Preferences" and having to scroll down to it apparently is not effective. Having the "Reading History" tab always visible under the patron's name on the left-hand menu would be more effective, instead of having it only appear once Reading History has already been turned on.

Currently in Leap when checking out an item - if that item has an item specific hold on it for a patron - it does not provide a pop up or warning if you try to check out that item to another patron. In Polaris it would warn you that there was an existing hold on that copy. This was a very useful notice for circulation staff.

  18. In the Polaris client (we're on 7.6) we would love to be able to un-delete "half-deleted" bib records (any in "Delete" status).

    We receive a monthly report of "Bibs without Item Records" for final weeding and we're finding many "half-deleted" bibs where staff have deleted the final copy on a record and clicked "delete" in the pop-up instead of "suppress from PAC".

    We would like to be able to bulk change these Delete-status records back to Final so we can extra needed marc data (OCLC #s, primarily) and then properly double-delete them.

  19. When deduplicating hold requests, Polaris looks at title, author, and material type. Therefore, it doesn't allow our customers to place holds on the same video game title for different consoles.

    Please also consider UPC during the hold request duplicate detection process.

  20. When checking-in an issue of a Professional serial, Leap will give a notification that a route list exists for that title. Leap will not link the new issue to the route list or print the list. Currently, my library has to use staff client when checking in Professional serials. It would be very helpful if this feature would be added to Leap.
