  1. We would like the ability to modify the description of the Item Record History Actions when it comes to renewals. Currently, when a renewal happens in the app, it lists it as "Renewal - third party software" which confused our library staff. We were told that is the wording for anything renewed via the Polaris API, but since (for now) the only thing we have renewing that way is the app, we'd like to change the wording to say "Renewal - Mobile App" so it's clearer for staff. Since not every library would want that same change, we'd like the…

  2. Currently, when staff update their library's Dates Closed table for a single date in the future they are required to select/enter the same date in both the Dates Closed and the Until fields.

While it is just a couple additional clicks, having the Until field auto-populate with the same date that staff have selected/entered in the Date Closed field would improve the end user experience when they are entering a number of single dates at once.

  3. When the theme's scss file is edited and compiled, the version parameter on the stylesheet link in the HTML does not update. This means that browsers don't know to pull the updated css from the server if they have it cached, so the css updates won't apply for all users immediately due to browser caching. Here's an example of the line in the HTML with the version parameter:

    <link type="text/css" rel=""https://yourlibrary.org/polaris/custom/themes/theme1/site.css?ver=7.1.14157.0">

It looks like the version parameter is based on the Polaris version, so I'm guessing it's automatically updated whenever Polaris is upgraded, but that doesn't help for theme adjustments…

  4. Hi there! We just had a situation with a patron where several items they returned in the book drop on 6/30 were checked in today 7/5, however they were back-dated to accommodate for the days the library was closed and prevent fees from accruing. But upon viewing the history in Leap for each of those items, the check-in date displays as 7/5 and does NOT show the 5 days back-date, which would've been 6/30. This is very confusing and misleading, as our patron spoke to the owning library about the items and the owning library said 'New Milford checked those…

  5. Currently there is no mechanism to limit the number of active Borrower by Mail requests a patron can have. It would be beneficial for all libraries to be able to limit the number of active BBM requests a patron can have in Polaris.

  6. Cataloging staff use staff cards to request items in for call number changes or various projects. It would be helpful for them to be able to add those items into a Record Set for bulk changes directly from the patron record Hold list, in lieu of individually from the item records.

  8. Some locations need to apply both a distributed tax and a header tax to invoices (in Canada a PST and a GST). Currently, Polaris adds the percentage from the distributed tax to the header tax, so the total is higher than it should be. Libraries can work around this by reducing the header amount by the percentage of the distributed amount, but this is a fiddly process and sometimes results in rounding errors.

We would like to see Polaris parse the calculation of the header tax charge, so it no longer includes the distributed tax amount. Polaris should also round…

  9. Patron Privacy is becoming a much larger issue. We currently use a UDF to hold our Patron ID.

We'd like to suggest that having the ability to create some way to collect and keep private patron data such as an ID or other PII would be ideal. And having this information encrypted in the database would be preferable as well.

Being able to prevent this information from always showing, would be a benefit and even having the ability to only show a part of that information, such as the last four digits or something similar, would be useful.

  10. Could you please look into providing an input field on SQL Find tool searches to allow the library staff to easily enter a search parameter e.g. an items barcode, a patron barcode.
At the moment with the SQL FIND TOOL searches we have created, we must teach them to go to the WHERE clause and correctly change the parameter before re-executing the query.
A dedicated entry parameter would simplify the use and training of SQL searching using the FIND tool.

  11. More and more libraries circulate mobile wifi hotspots to the public. Polaris and Polaris Leap do not currently integrate with Kajeet, which is one of the more popular wifi hotspot providers for schools and libraries. It would be beneficial to libraries using the Polaris ILS to be able to streamline the circulation process such that checking in/out a hotspot in Polaris also activated/deactivated the hotspot itself.

  12. There should be an option to block patrons from placing holds on items if there is only one owning library and the circulation status of the item is listed as missing or in storage. While in storage items should be visible to patrons in the OPAC since sometimes that item can be taken out of storage if a patron wants it, they shouldn't be able to place a hold if there's only one owning library and their only copy is listed as in storage. Like withdrawn items, missing items simply shouldn't show up at all for patrons as an option.

  14. I realize this is niche, but if you go to set up SSO in your environment, heaven help you. My crew just got through a week of getting things set up. There were 3 of my employees and at least 1 Innovative support staff and 1 Innovative dev involved all week. I can't imagine the amount of $$$ that was burned in hourly staff time getting it going. And of course the good news is that an upgrade or server move could break it all again! Some of the documentation is wrong and some of the transcribing of the data…

  15. When using the find tool basic search, we can use filters to narrow down criteria. After applying the criteria, if we select power search, the power search string is automatically created based on the filters. We can then modify the power search as desired.

It would be very helpful if this could work in opposite way: that if we create a power search, but are wanting to then see the visual representation in the basic search filters, that we could move from power search to basic search with the criteria filled in in the filters.

Or at least keep the check marks of the selected PO lines to receive and then to print slips to avoid selecting the same PO lines twice.

  17. Please add a Save option for the full picklist so any items removed will stay removed.

When we go to Utilities > Outreach Services > Picklist, we see the full picklist for all Outreach Services (ORS) patrons. We can find a title either by scrolling through the list or using the filter to search by patron or title. We can select the title and then press "Remove from list". The full picklist displays and the selected title no longer appears on the list.

However, there isn't an option to Save here.

If we select "refresh," we receive a warning that…

  18. In the 7.5 update, which introduces the ability to cancel items in "shipped" and "held" statuses, I suggest extending this cancellation privilege to staff members exclusively. When patrons cancel items that are on hold, those items are often already on the hold shelf, and the system's only notification to staff is by adding the item to the cancelled hold list.

By allowing only staff to cancel holds, they could promptly remove the item from the shelf and cancel it directly, eliminating the need for setting an expiration date or other measures to force its expiration.

  19. It would be nice if Authorized User (custom field under Attribute on patron registration) can be added to the header in Leap so staff do not have to open up(click) the patron registration to see it.

We would like for this field to be visible when staff opens the check out screen for a patron without having to open their registration screen.
