Ability to move rows in the Item Statistical Class Code policy table
It would be helpful if we could move rows up and down in the item statistical class code policy table. We have librarians transferring items between branches that have statistical class codes in them. The codes will automatically change to a different code when assigned to the new branch because the position of the code in the policy table does not align. The cataloger must remember to update that field to the correct code.
This would be beneficial to our librarians, simplify their workflow, and prevent errors.

Option to slide divider to resize record header and editable data field
When you open a bib or item record, the header takes up about half the screen (with a slider bar if the record is long). For staff going in to edit the item details tab or the bib MARC tab, they no longer need to keep seeing all the header info. It would be useful if the field with the editable data were in a horizontal split screen or divide that could be slid up to minimize the header and expand the editable space.

Record set filtering by column
The search/filter functionality in a record set could be improved by providing the option of applying it to a selected column instead of to all the columns.

Inventory to update item status
I would like to have the option for items being inventoried, if they have an anomalous status, to have those items go to a status of IN. Of course, we would rather not do that for damaged items, etc., so the ability to decide which statuses would be updated to IN, such as missing, would be essential.

Advance Additional Hold Requests Through RTF Sequences
When multiple hold requests exist for the same title, Polaris may keep all of the requests in the same Holds Request to Fill Routing Sequence as long as a single eligible item remains available in that sequence. This can occur even AFTER one item has already been identified to fill the requests.
As a result, the remaining requests may wait through the full primary and secondary routing periods before reaching the tertiary sequence, even though other libraries have available items that could fill them immediately. Depending on the configured days-at-branch settings, this can unnecessarily delay requests.
Polaris should evaluate each…

Allow staff to add supplier records without allowing them to modify the Postal Codes table
When staff add Supplier records, they currently are required to have the "Modify Postal Address Fields" permission. This means that they can add any postal code/city combination into the address and, if it is not already in the Postal Codes table, it will automatically be added there. This allows staff to add incorrect data into the Postal Codes table, which then allows circulation staff to accidentally select those options when adding new patron accounts. We would like to see Supplier records have the same option as Patron records, where we can lock staff down so that they can only select…

Reminder to refresh bib workform after editing in compare tool
Because edits can be made on a bib from the compare tool while the bib workform is open and unlocked, it would be helpful to have a reminder to staff to refresh the bib workform if they return to it. When staff are working with multiple bibs, it is easy to forget that a refresh is needed before making additional edits. Saving in the bib workform can result in losing the edits made in the compare tool.
Ideally a pop-up or a highlighted refresh button would only show up if edits had been made to the bib elsewhere. This could…12 votes -
Edit Dated Notes
Would love the ability to be able to edit dated notes so that information can be updated instead of building up a long list of notes on a patron's account.

Blocking Conditions for Item Barcodes
The ability to block item barcodes that begin with specific digits, such as 978, would be a tremendous benefit for libraries. During item record creation, staff may accidentally scan the ISBN or UPC printed on the item instead of the library-assigned barcode intended for circulation use.
Providing the ability to restrict or block specific barcode patterns would help prevent incorrect barcodes from being saved to item records. For example, preventing an item record from being saved when the barcode begins with 978, the standard prefix for traditional ISBNs, would significantly reduce these types of errors and improve data accuracy.

WebSA branch hours-modifying permissions
Presently in the Polaris client there are two paths to updating a branch's hours of operation in the Administration Explorer. The first is to access the table in the SA path Parameters > Patron Services > Hours of Operations; the second is to right-click the branch name, choose to edit it, and in the new window that opens go to the Tools menu and choose 'Define Hours of Operation'. The first of these two approaches requires the permission 'Modify parameters: Allow', and the second does not.
We rely on staff being able to use the second approach for editing hours…

LEAP - Add Received Date and User to POLI segment view
By adding received date and user to the POLI segment view, we would be able to quickly troubleshoot issues without needing to run reports.

Allow staff to select sounds
Allowing staff to select different sounds when checking items in and out would be a great benefit. For example, when checking an item in and there is a hold, a different sound would help alert the staff, or when a patron's library card is scanned for checkout, a custom-selected warning sound would play. At busy times, it is easy to just go with flow because all the sounds are the same.

Auto delete dated notes
We would like the ability to set a date parameter to auto delete dated notes. Our retention policy is to not keep any notes on a patron older than 5 years. Currently our staff need to manually look through all patrons with notes and delete the old ones. Now with dated notes we would like it to do this process for us possibly with an overnight process.
Bonus if it can also avoid dated notes that might be flagged in a way to not delete.

Clean any invalid characters on import of MARC records
Recently, Ingram sent us a MARC record that caused the record to both not show up in LEAP and not be available for API calls, so it didn't show up in our discovery layer either.
It ended up being that there was an invalid character ([ERR] FOR XML could not serialize the data for node 'data()' because it contains a character (0x0019) which is not allowed in XML.) in the MARC record causing this.
It would be helpful if Polaris would clean any incoming MARC record of characters it knows will cause issues.

Provide a way for administrators to disable all patron credit features
Our libraries would like to disable all the patron credit features. Most of our libraries do not accept lost-and-paid items; once the item is paid for, it belongs to the patron if found. We have 43 libraries in our system and our reconciliations of lost item payments is already complex enough that we can only do it semiannually. Adding a 'paid from credit" line is going to bring up questions from our auditors. And mistakes have already been made when staff doesn't see the credit on a patron's account and so asks them to make a payment.

Ability for staff to bulk change a patron's pickup branch
Staff would like to be able to bulk change a patron's pickup branch for selected (or all) holds on the patron's account. Be they holds already trapped, suspended or active. We often have patrons that move from one part of the area to another and need to change their holds to reflect their new pickup branch. Having to change one hold at a time is tedious.

Leap - allow for adding selected records to a PO or selection list
Please add more options for adding records in a record set to purchase orders or selection lists in Leap. Currently, the only actions in Leap are to bulk add records to a new or existing PO; the Polaris client also has options to add all records to a new or existing selection list, to add selected records to a new or existing PO, or to add selected records to new or existing selection lists. (See screenshots.)

Automatic Posting and Sending of OverDues to Library Directors
Post OverDue notices to the database without printing them. We have libraries that are not regularly printing and posting to the database overdue notices so items move in the system to missing and withdrawn before some libraries ever send out a notice. Some libraries haven't sent them in 1-3 years. So, I want to post them and then email a pdf on the overdues automatically on the first of every month.

View password option in login
It would be helpful to have a "view password" option in the login for library patrons/guests. I have gotten feedback from patrons who are visually impaired that having this feature would make logging in to their library account much easier, allowing them to identify typing errors before submitting their login information. The view password feature seems to be such a standard across wide array of platforms, pages, and applications. Why wouldn't a library be able to offer it?
