  1. Have the Call Number (082 #a) drop into the Classification field in the Item Record when the item moves from On Order to Received.

This function would most benefit staff who catalogue (or import full catalogue records) and then manage the Purchase Order process.

The goal is to reduce the room for error when adding items.

  2. It would be helpful if we could search using the Find Tool for items with a Last Activity Date. Last circulated is a search option, and Last activity is a column option to display, but I have yet found a way to use it in my search criteria.

  3. Could you please look into providing an input field on SQL Find tool searches to allow the library staff to easily enter a search parameter e.g. an items barcode, a patron barcode.
At the moment with the SQL FIND TOOL searches we have created, we must teach them to go to the WHERE clause and correctly change the parameter before re-executing the query.
A dedicated entry parameter would simplify the use and training of SQL searching using the FIND tool.

  4. Most of our libraries loan the library of things and museum passes to their own patrons. However, since all members use Adult Resident patron code for their resident patrons, it is not possible to limit materials to their own patrons. Could a checkout setting be added to the item records, similar to the hold setting "patrons from this library and branches" and "x days past first available".

  5. A consistent piece of feedback we get from front-line staff is that patrons struggle to find where to turn on Reading History and that they themselves often forget where it is located. Having it buried within "My Record"-->"Contact Information and Preferences" and having to scroll down to it apparently is not effective. Having the "Reading History" tab always visible under the patron's name on the left-hand menu would be more effective, instead of having it only appear once Reading History has already been turned on.

  6. Indian Trails Library has had a large flux in separated families with parents living in two different library districts. The parents want to keep their accounts separate. According to IL these children are entitled to have a library card with each parent when they reside at both addresses.

Also, we have several members with two properties in different library districts. A few times now the accounts were merged and the members have been upset with the library even though we placed notes on the member's account not to merge the accounts.

A "Do Not Merge" checkbox added to the Registration…

  7. When deduplicating hold requests, Polaris looks at title, author, and material type. Therefore, it doesn't allow our customers to place holds on the same video game title for different consoles.

Please also consider UPC during the hold request duplicate detection process.

  8. When checking-in an issue of a Professional serial, Leap will give a notification that a route list exists for that title. Leap will not link the new issue to the route list or print the list. Currently, my library has to use staff client when checking in Professional serials. It would be very helpful if this feature would be added to Leap.

  9. Opening Day Collection orders are created when large numbers of new books and videos are needed to either create an entirely new collection for a branch or to partially replace a collection. Large orders tend to produce large quantities of invoices; for this reason, streamlining all possible aspects of invoice payments is essential to help expedite payments for these orders. It would be very helpful to all libraries if Polaris offered functionality to assign a specific cataloging fund to Opening Day Collection orders. The new functionality would save libraries significant labor when paying invoices for these orders without affecting regular…

  12. It would be great if staff could create a record set of patrons to delete and a supervisor could review them before deletion, similar to how item records can be reviewed in a record set by a supervisor before deletion.

  13. When you are in the Request Manager on Leap, it is possible to select multiple titles and then cancel them all at once - there is no additional confirmation.

This bulk action can be hard to undo.

It would be helpful to have a warning dialog box pop-up when staff are attempting this bulk action. Also labelling the "proceed" button as "Cancel Holds" would be helpful as an extra step to ensure that staff are taking the proper action.

  14. Add a link generator to the Record Set application. There's way too much room for error in expecting staff to create a custom URL every time we need a record set. It would make sense to have it near the Export function under the Actions menu. Thanks for considering!

  16. We are upgrading to 7.4 soon and noticed that one of the new features (from 7.3) was the ability to cancel held holds. These seem to display really nicely in Leap (especially with the holds to action tab), but the display in the Polaris client could be improved. Currently, it seems like these cancelled holds just get added to the cancelled view which does not give any indication that the item was on the hold shelf and needs to be pulled/checked in.

I would like to see either a canned report that lists all held holds that were cancelled at…

  17. All use of Secure patron when customer has checkouts, holds, etc.

The secure patron function in Leap does almost exactly what we need for what we call suspended patrons (those not allowed on library property) - it blocks a customer's record and provides a clear, visual indicator that the account has been secured.

I can't use it though and had to create a workaround to accomplish much the same thing because Secure Patron is only an option when the patron has no account activity. This makes no sense and renders the function unusable.

  18. Staff client allows you to delete a record and record sets from a set of search results, however, Leap requires clicking into each record, then clicking Actions and then clicking delete (or putting them all in a record set). Right now I'm cleaning up some old record sets. If I were doing this in the client, I have the ability to select multiple record sets within my results list and then right click to delete them in bulk. This would be a game changer in Leap.

  19. Issue
When a patron places an item-level hold and the item’s status is later changed to Missing, Lost, or another status that renders the item unfillable, the patron is not notified of this change. The hold remains in place without any communication, leaving the patron unaware that the request can no longer be fulfilled. This also happens with bib-level holds when the last available item linked to the record goes to a status like Missing or Unavailable.

    Requested Enhancement

When a hold becomes unfillable due to a status change (e.g., Missing, Lost, Withdrawn, etc.), Polaris should automatically notify the patron…

  20. Our libraries would like to disable all the patron credit features. Most of our libraries do not accept lost-and-paid items; once the item is paid for, it belongs to the patron if found. We have 43 libraries in our system and our reconciliations of lost item payments is already complex enough that we can only do it semiannually. Adding a 'paid from credit" line is going to bring up questions from our auditors. And mistakes have already been made when staff doesn't see the credit on a patron's account and so asks them to make a payment.
