  1. When working in a Sierra bib record, I would like to click on the author, series and subject fields so I can see a list of records that have those same authors, series, and subjects. Encore has this capability. I would like to see it in Sierra.

  2. We would like to have a collection summary report based on item records with a count by item type and location. If possible, adding a limiter for circulation status, for example on shelf or checked out.

  3. Currently, the bibs, holdings, and orders APIs do not return the expanded Locations fields for records with multi locations. The multi location value that is returned is useless without the expanded values.

  4. The current "Frozen Holds" function in WebPAC does not allow for patrons to select a date at which they want their holds to be "unfrozen". Staff have the ability to set a "Not Wanted Before" date on behalf of the patron, but there is currently have no way to modify the date of a frozen hold on behalf of a patron in the Sierra Desktop App. SDA should have the option to change that date once frozen by the patron, in the event the patron cannot unfreeze it themselves.

Staff feedback: "We've had a lot of patron confusion around freeze…

  5. Allow for automatic renewals on items where the only holds on that item are frozen.

    Idea Value
Currently if a hold is frozen, automatic renewals do not work because the hold on the item blocks renewal. This presents a problem because the hold is frozen and the patron does not want the item yet, forcing patrons to return items just to have them sit on the shelf. Allowing for automatic renewals when a hold is frozen will allow patrons to keep their items until the other patron wants them.

  6. The current icons available for the OPAC for material types are woefully lacking. There's no icon for audiobooks (the modern digital type), but you have icons for cd-rom books and books on cassette. The icon I'd most like to see added is a streaming video icon. This is a very common collection item in the 21st century, but our only option is a film (reel-to-reel), dvd, or internet resource (which isn't helpful at all). Any chance we could get more modern material type icons? For ideas, simply google "streaming video icon" and look at all the options!

  7. Postpone/freeze a hold after it's Ready for Pickup
Similar to Overdrive's redeliver option. Allow a patron to postpone/redeliver their hold one time if it comes in unexpectedly or at a time when they cannot come to pick it up.

  8. Have the results of Manage Holds automatically emailed each morning.

This would let staff pick holds even if they don't have Sierra open or available. The automated emails could be set up within the Manage Holds function itself, or could be accomplished if Scheduler worked with Manage Holds (right now Scheduler only works with Create Lists and Data Exchange).

  9. Currently when NCIP items are returned via a sorter, SIP2 is not able to check them in. This results confusion for staff and patrons, as when staff check in the item it traps the hold once again. Currently, the only solution is to re-check out every item returned through a sorter to the patron, and then re-check it in via SDA, which adds to overall workload.

  10. Collection and circulation analytics would improve if we could import Create Lists item/bib search results into Decision Center.

If so, Decision Center could aggregate Create Lists results (searches based on authorities, orders, or hold/patron circulation behaviours) to provide circulation and collection statistics.

Our libraries would be satisfied for this import to display the fields that are in the “high”/ “low” circulation weeding reports.

We understand that the aggregated statistics in Decision Center are generated the night before.

  11. Circulation staff would like the ability to waive portions of individual fines/fees on a patron record.

Sometimes staff forgets to backdate items in our book drop or the library is closed for some reason (weather, etc.). Staff wants to waive part of the late fee, but are forced to waive the full amount for the item, then go back and enter in a manual fee (or just waive completely).

    Idea Value

Save staff time (no need to waive and then add a fine back in)

Accuracy re: fines paid data (will be properly noted as fine vs. manual)

  12. Analysis of holds is often requested by managers keen to see what users are requesting and how much material is going where across multiple sites.

However a lot of detailed information on holds in the SQL tables is transitory e.g. hold, hold_removed.

I have long thought that it would be helpful to include hold pickup location in circ_trans, which provides a historic perspective and can be downloaded and/or adjusted to capture longer time frames.

This would enable data and analysis which is not possible currently.

  14. For libraries with floating collections, the location where an item was made "claimed returned" may not reflected in the item record. This is because the 3 options staff have when an item is "claimed returned" does not change the location of the item.

    Essentially the problem:
An item is “checked out” at location A.
The item is “claimed returned” at location B.
The item location remains as location A.

Staff have 3 choices when they make an item claimed returned:

    · 1. Places a claimed returned note in both the item and patron records

    · 2. (Optional) Removes the check-out…

  15. When you export a file with Scheduler FTP, it currently adds a time and date stamp on the end of the file name. We have no control over this addition to the file name. This stamp makes the file completely useless for many applications. Many of the vendors we might send files to require particular file extensions on our files, such as .mrc. Since this stamp is added to the end of the file name, it is not possible to specify the required file extension.

As a result Scheduler is completely incompatible with Ingram's Ipage service for example.

    We need…

  16. Objective: Allow Libraries to assign granularity to API role permissions.

When Libraries give a 3rd party vendor read access, we want to be able to restrict the endpoints associated with the role. In addition, we want to restrict the fields that can be returned. Ideally, the implementation of the requested features below will provide an interface to the Innovative clients where the vendor access will be managed.

There are endpoint and field restriction examples below to show how assigning granularity to API role permissions would allow libraries to improve access management.

    Endpoint restriction example:
We would like to be able…

  17. In the SDA OR Sierra Web, the Sierra 2-tier login workflow allows administrators to set a "time-out" setting to the 2nd tier (personalized) login. This setting determines if the session will time out or close after a specific amount of time.

This is an excellent workflow except that there is no setting to manage 1st tier inactivity. This means at the end of the day we have many Sierra licenses that remain open and the Library must manually force close the desktop applications using the "restart a process" in Admin Corner.

Please configure context logins so that Libraries can determine…

  19. In Sierra - SDA and Web - you can sort review files in Create Lists by the column header, i.e., file #, current records, max records, type, status, login and created.

In the Admin App (BACK END MANAGEMENT > Review Files), the only columns displaying are file # (which doesn't appear to match the file # in the SDA/Sierra Web), number of records (= max records), current and name. Sorting by column is not an option.

The display, labeling and function for managing review files should be consistent.

  20. In circtrans and finespaid views (and maybe more views) there are several dates that are showing a value of 0 (which displays as 1969-12-31 due to UNIX date formatting).

Dates do not have a value of 0, they can however, have a value of NULL, which is already how things work with other dates in the system, like the bib record cataloguingdategmt.

This should be fixed for any dates in the system, not because anyone may or may not vote for it, but because it is both inaccurate and inconsistent.

    I logged this as a ticket,…
