  1. When a Sierra SDA login is first created the system utilizes individual summary view properties for the various search functions. By default in cataloging if you open up the summary view of a record you see item records, in search/holds you see holds, in place orders you see orders and in serials checkin you see checkin records.

    If you opt to change that setting however from the record view properties menu (say to change this to view all) it can impact all 4 search functions. It would be better to split this menu out, so that the setting for each…

  2. We can’t use this button because we don’t use print templates for our bills.
    We would prefer them to look pretty with Print Templates instead of the plain text we currently have. To avoid staff confusion, it would be great if this we had the ability to disable/grey out this button.

  3. https://ideas.iii.com/forums/951745-ils-sierra/suggestions/46670854-sierra-5-5-direct-view-public-display-to-disco is closed/says it's already supported, but the part for being configured to more than one display option is not addressed. We would like to be able to have more than one option to display - Vega, Classic, Encore and even III Mobile if possible - so we can see how all iterations look right from the SDA. So in the menu it would be View | Public Display | array of choices

  4. Idea: create a new status that references a scheduled booking for an item.

    Value: Currently, Sierra does not change the status of an item that has a scheduled booking. When using the API to reflect the status of an item on a catalog, the item will show as status - (On Shelf) even though the item is not available because it has a scheduled booking for that time.   5. When exporting MARC tags, export should have all the subfields marked. Now that I try to export say 041, I can´t see if the language code is in a, b or d... And this would be important to know as it is not the same to have say |a fin |h eng and |a fin |a eng.

  6. It would be very helpful to be able to print a Statement of Charges directly from a patron record (and have it formatted for 8-1/2 x 11 paper and mail-ready).

    For context, we are a 138-library consortium, all notices are Auto Notices, and we do not run Statement of Charges for the consortium. Yes, you can run a statement for 1 patron in the Notices function, but this requires consortium staff intervention since that permission is locked down to consortium staff.   7. When using Create Lists and using Retrieve Saved Query, you are able to sort the list in ascending order. When you go to Save As a query, it goes in and there doesn't appear to be any sort of order (in the past I swear it went in the order it was added/saved). So if you have to tweak your query and need to Save As again, good luck finding it, esp. when you have 100+ saved queries. Ideally you could sort the list of queries, like you can when you initially retrieve them.

  8. This is two fold. First, we would like to be able to set a default printer option determined by the staff users workflow (circulation workflow/function would default to "email to patron", and cataloging function would default to local printer, etc). So staff log in and select their function area and the system uses a specific printer default accordingly.

  10. When you create (a) new item(s) while cataloging -- or create any records actually! -- the pop-up that guides you to enter the data step-by-step should have a back button. Currently, if you make a mistake and click Next you either have to cancel and start over or keep going and fix the mistake on each item record individually after saved/completed. It can be quite tedious when you are adding multiple items at once.

  11. When a user is in the Cataloging workflow, the "Due Date" column in the "Item" view is sorted as a string instead of a date, eg "1-01-2023" comes before "9-01-2021". It would be helpful for this to be sorted as a date and match the sorting of the "Due Date" column in the "Holds" view.

  12. Currently when NCIP items are returned via a sorter, SIP2 is not able to check them in. This results confusion for staff and patrons, as when staff check in the item it traps the hold once again. Currently, the only solution is to re-check out every item returned through a sorter to the patron, and then re-check it in via SDA, which adds to overall workload.

  13. We frequently have the unfortunate situation where staff accidentally delete their paging list from the list of Notices. Ideally, we'd prefer that frontline staff be able to prepare, print, & fulfill their paging lists but not be able to delete them.

    Separating authorizations to create/edit/delete these lists from the preparation & printing would save support staff a great deal of time spent recreating these lists & remove some of the potential for frustration & confusion among frontline staff.

  14. Skip certain MARC subfields when preparing data for SIP2 connection.

    Specifically:
    When Sierra needs to send information to display an item title on a patron-facing device (automated materials handler, self-checkout kiosk, etc.) via SIP2, it currently appears to concatenate all occupied subfields of MARC field 245 and remove the delimiters. This means that certain information not intended to be patron-facing can end up appearing in the title the patron sees on screen (e.g. "880-01 Desu nôto 2..." appearing instead of just "Desu nôto 2...", where "880-01" is not actually part of the title, but rather a reference to another field…

  16. There are two things we would like to see in the Mark Damaged Items process. First we need a separate notice text for damaged items. We are trying to differentiate between lost and damaged and having to use the same notice text is problematic. Second, we'd like the status after the bill is paid to be Damaged & Paid (just like Lost & Paid) instead of just Damaged, as staff can't tell if this is an initial damaged status or one that has been paid for.   17. Problem: Many patrons have holds on titles in Quick Pick or Lucky Day collections. When they "get lucky" and check out one of these non-holdable copies their original hold remains in the queue and the patron often neglects to cancel their hold.

    Impact: Fulfilling these unnecessary holds wastes time for staff and patrons and delays trigging other patrons' holds as the item sits on the holdshelf until the expiration date. Collection budgets are also negatively impacted as these unnecessary holds can skew the item-to-holds ratio for high-demand items that selectors use to determine how many additional copies to purchase.

  18. The first request we got after releasing emailed Due Slips was for the option to generate both an email and a print slip. Some people like the physical reminder in the form of a printed slip (that doubles as a bookmark!) and an electronic version that they can use as a reminder or a fallback.

  19. Would love to see the word "replacement" changed to a word that gets at the actual status. Currently the charge type of "replacement" is used for a long overdue item that has been billed or a damaged item that has been billed. To find out if the item that has been billed is damaged or just hasn't been returned you have to go into the item record to see if a damaged note has been added.

  20. We recently started using NCIP authentication for our new ILL service. We learned after implementation that NCIP login is blocked for any of the reasons in the Patron Block Table. This makes sense when the block is for an expired card, or for fees over the threshold. This makes less sense when they have reached their maximum holds in Sierra.

    What we're seeing is that patrons cannot log into the system at all when any of the block parameters are true. We would like to be able to enforce certain blocks but not others for account login.
