  1. We’ve noticed that Discover doesn’t display the “recently returned” shelving status that comes from Polaris even though "Recently Returned" appears as an option in our Item Mapping list. "Recently Returned" is not a true item status in Polaris. The item status for recently returned items is actually “In” (which is how these items appear in Discover), but the database flags an item depending on whether or not it is also considered "recently returned."

Discover offers its own perfectly good “recently returned” functionality, but it would be nice if the “Recently Returned” message that patrons see in Discover could match the…

  2. We noticed that Discover users focus on the “On the shelf” list and miss “Find a Copy”. We would like to submit a feature request to have “Find a Copy” more prominently displayed. The three ways to do this in order of preference:

    1. Above “On the shelf” reversing the two locations + larger icon and font
    2. Next to “On the shelf” so both are on the same line + larger icon and font
    3. Larger icon and font where it currently resides on the page

  3. Add the ability to add local rules to assist titles/formats in rollups.

For example, a Vega library could create a rule that says Overdrive ebooks / eaudios can still rollup with physical materials even if the Overdrive MARC records lack a 245$b (subtitle) but the physical title MARC records contain a 245$b.

  5. autorenewals and c:239

Please allow items to be automatically renewable in the system without effort if the item isn't on hold.

Also please reinstate the searching code to limit to North Chicago Public Library easily. In Encore we could put " DVD and C:239" to limit to our DVDs in one step.

  7. I still feel this is sort of a bug, but I'm going to try submitting an idea.

When logged in: You can click on any link in "My Bookshelf" to expand it, but you can only collapse it by clicking either the down arrow or the "My Bookshelf" tab. When on another tab such as "Bookmarks, Saved Searches, or Reading History", I feel that clicking on these tabs should also collapse the My Bookshelf back to the bottom.

When not logged in: Clicking any link in the "My Bookshelf" will expand it but clicking "My Bookshelf" no longer collapses it…

  8. We often re-use images for our Vega home page, specifically the Hero, and there is no way to quickly access those images - you are forced to upload again and again. For example, maybe we opt to promote/use one of our Hero images every 3 months for a particular service. When you go to promote that service again, you have to try and find the artwork you stored locally again, upload. It seems like this could be store somewhere, maybe make it optional when you upload to keep/store the file (so you could say "no" for something that is a…

  9. Libraries should have the option to exclude frozen holds from the total holds queue that appears in any catalogue.

    Benefits:

    1) Customers will have a better idea of where they are in the hold queue.
We encourage customer-driven hold management, and customers have told us that they want an estimate of when their holds will be filled.
This is especially true when customers place multiple hold on titles within a series.

    2) Customers will not see inflated hold queues and provide feedback to the Library that they should purchase more copies.

    3) Customers could make an education decision on whether…

  10. In Encore, we could leverage scopes we had created in Sierra to create a quick way to search a group of nearby libraries-for instance, Quad Cities area libraries, Rockford area libraries, Henry County libraries, etc. In Vega, there is no quick way to do this. It would be great to have a way to create location groups in specific collection sites so that patrons can have this "shortcut" available to them again.

  11. Currently if a copy isn't available at the pickup location of any edition in a multi-edition rollup in Vega Discover, the holds logic dictates that it will look next for any edition with a copy available at the patron's home library, then for the edition with the most available copies, then if no copies are available, for the edition with the best holds:copies ratio.

The libraries with branches in our consortium would like the holds logic to look at availability of editions at their BRANCHES next if the pickup library has branches but doesn't own any editions themself. Also, they…

  12. We would like to be able to remove "advanced search" from the kids cat, however it appears that it is enabled across all the collection and kiosk sites if it is turned on. We would like to be able to enable it at the collection/kiosk site level if needed.

  13. Allow more than 10 "exceptions" to library hours. The 10-exception limit often does not allow for a full year's worth of closed dates to be listed, which makes it feel incomplete. The limit also means that admins will have to go back and make edits more frequently to both remove passed days and add the next exceptions, instead of adding all exceptions at the beginning of the year and simply removing passed holidays as they happen. (It would also be cool if the passed days could disappear automatically.)

I would also like "closed" to be the default type of exception…

  14. Vega currently blocks item-level requests where one location attached does not lend the items, even though other locations will. The items that do not ILL are causing Vega to fail the request. This forces the patron to click the request button for all the editions/locations in the rollup until they find a library that will ILL the item.
Eliminate that painful patron experience by having Vega do that work for them. This should be set at the Consortium level as it is not an issue in the Collection Sites.

  15. In the current PAC if you do a series search for an author, you get results for titles in series by that author. The same doesn't happen in Vega Discover since 800 $a isn't indexed and only $t is indexed. We would like $a indexed as well.

  16. For example: If a patron searches for the author Noelle Stevenson, results for their established heading of ND Stevenson should come up.
or if Diwali is searched for, the established heading of Divali should be included in results.

  17. Currently in Vega, patrons cannot search by genre (655 tag). The ability to search or refine by genre would be really helpful, since patrons could then more easily search for genres such as "Picture books" or "Science fiction."

  18. I have worked at my current library for close to 6 months now. I cannot begin to describe the number of times a patron tells me they do not understand Vega Discover, or how to find out where an item is shelved. The filled in large green check mark is too distracting and confusing to patrons. That is a complaint I have heard repeatedly. The small open not filled in check mark with the library name is not visible enough to patrons, nor is it super obvious it's a hyperlink to the call number.

This particular piece of Vega Discover…

  19. The 008 is the field we would prefer to use for the language facet and no other field. The 008 only field is consistently used in all our records. We stopped using the 240 fields in bib records, because that caused problems in Vega. The only time we use the 041 is when a title is bilingual. It would be a huge amount of work to update all our bib records. It is complicated how it currently works, and search results are confusing.

  20. the library would like patrons to be able to see patrons that are linked in Sierra. For instance, to allow a patron to renew their kids items under their Juvenile accounts, in bulk at once or flipping to that account view for renewing without re-logging in, or see and/or pay their fines, etc, because the accounts are linked in Sierra.
