  1. It is standard website practice — and has been for over 15 years — to upload a sitemap for google and other search engines to ingest. This ability would help Google and others to index the catalog's contents within Vega, improving search result rankings (i.e. SEO) for Vega Discover catalog content.

  3. Users have requested a "Select" option when viewing checkouts, holds, etc. in My Bookshelf. Ideally, this option would behave the same way it works in Innovative Mobile; users would be able to specify multiple titles and then renew them at the same time. The "bulk renew" option that was recently added to Vega Discover sort of addressed this, but users want to be able to select specific titles.

  4. Currently, when a user gets to the end of the configured images, they have to use the back arrow. It would be a better user experience if the hero carousel navigated to the first image.

  5. Just like the facets column can be suppressed once you have set your search filters. The header should be the same way. It would be nice to be able to hide it once a patron is logged in & no longer needs it as it take up some screen real estate.

  6. Please add the ability for libraries to add their own permission groups with specific level of controls set by administrators, or build more granular permission groups. Currently, administration level access is required to do many of the features explained to us for showcase approves and Vega Homepage displays.

    We do not want to give all of our librarians "admin" level and "staff" is not high enough to make our day to day work possible.

Currently if a copy isn't available at the pickup location of any edition in a multi-edition rollup in Vega Discover, the holds logic dictates that it will look next for any edition with a copy available at the patron's home library, then for the edition with the most available copies, then if no copies are available, for the edition with the best holds:copies ratio.

    The libraries with branches in our consortium would like the holds logic to look at availability of editions at their BRANCHES next if the pickup library has branches but doesn't own any editions themself. Also, they…

In Encore, we could leverage scopes we had created in Sierra to create a quick way to search a group of nearby libraries-for instance, Quad Cities area libraries, Rockford area libraries, Henry County libraries, etc. In Vega, there is no quick way to do this. It would be great to have a way to create location groups in specific collection sites so that patrons can have this "shortcut" available to them again.

  9. The 008 is the field we would prefer to use for the language facet and no other field. The 008 only field is consistently used in all our records. We stopped using the 240 fields in bib records, because that caused problems in Vega. The only time we use the 041 is when a title is bilingual. It would be a huge amount of work to update all our bib records. It is complicated how it currently works, and search results are confusing.

This idea came from a journey mapping exercise at IUG - a non-card holder attempts to use the library for the first time, makes their way to a library website, uses the search box to find an item, and locates it in the results. They select the Get It / Place Hold button and are presented with a request to log in. With no card, they're at an impasse.   11. It would be nice to have a link in Vega Discover to report incorrect images and have a status note once its been reported so multiple reports are not being submitted for same image. Contact information seems to change often and can get a bit frustrating to get resolved.

  12. We would like the brief availability to be more specific than it is, similar to the way the PAC is in the brief display (see screenshots). It should have specific numbers rather than say "one or more locations". If it can't be displayed in that spot, then it should be displayed below the Place Hold button where it lists the number of holds and copies.

  14. Add the ability to add local rules to assist titles/formats in rollups.

    For example, a Vega library could create a rule that says Overdrive ebooks / eaudios can still rollup with physical materials even if the Overdrive MARC records lack a 245$b (subtitle) but the physical title MARC records contain a 245$b.

  15. Allow patrons to automate holds for new releases from their favorite authors. Patrons should be able to select their favorite authors to be automatically placed on hold for new releases or acquisitions from that author. Vega discover could also provide statistics on which authors have the most holds, allowing libraries the ability to improve purchasing for popular authors. This would provide an improved solution to a popular program offered by many libraries.

  16. We generally prefer serial bibs for multi-volume graphic novels over individual bibs for each volume. Syndetics doesn't seem to understand this set-up. Only the first volume in the series is in color, while the other volumes (which are reflected as ISBNs in the serial bib, and as item records) are grayed-out. This is misleading to patrons. Syndetics should recognize our holdings from all the ISBNs in the bib record.

  17. We have had a few customers report that when they open their My Bookshelf on a laptop they can't see their entire bookshelf. When they open in a new tab or new window it doesn’t display optimally either. You can control and – to make the screen smaller, but then you can't actually read what's on your bookshelf. They know you can use the toggles but you can't see all your holds or checkouts at once.

  18. Libraries should have the option to exclude frozen holds from the total holds queue that appears in any catalogue.

    Benefits:

    1) Customers will have a better idea of where they are in the hold queue.
    We encourage customer-driven hold management, and customers have told us that they want an estimate of when their holds will be filled.
    This is especially true when customers place multiple hold on titles within a series.

    2) Customers will not see inflated hold queues and provide feedback to the Library that they should purchase more copies.

In a consortia, especially one with many member libraries that share patrons, it is important for users to be able to move from the main/parent domain instance of Discover to one of the individual library sites and also to be able to navigate between member library sites. This is functionality currently available in the Polaris PAC and heavily used.

  20. A staff member would like to add the possibility of creating multiple item level holds on one title in the catalog similarly to what staff members can do in Leap. This will help patrons and book clubs that would like to place a hold on the same title without a duplicate error more seamlessly.
