  1. Consortias often use Item Date to identify 'New Materials' by member library rather than 'Cat Date' or 'First Available Date' at the Bib Level for new titles. Consortias need an option to use an item level date so that 'new materials' can be correctly identified at the member library level.

  2. The Log In pop up disappears if the mouse is ever-so-slightly off the tab, and keeps closing. This can be frustrating. Can this be "sticky" once clicked, so it doesn't disappear while patrons are typing?

  3. We are using the alias in the patron record in Sierra (field group tag c). This field group is indexed in the barcode-index, and patrons can use the alias for logging in to the patron account. The alias can also be used for logging in to the computers at the libraries and also for checking out e-media.

Setting/changing the nickname in Vega has no correlation to the alias in Sierra and only works for logging into Vega.

We fear this might be a bit confusing for our patrons.
So we think changing the nickname in Vega should also insert/update the…

  4. We have the ability to see item availability within grid view on the regular Vega Discover site, but will not see that on the grid view within the customized Kids'/Themed (Kiosk) page. Please incorporate this for ease of visability within Kids'/Themed homepages. I've attached two screenshots showing the green/red boxes on a regular Vega Discover grid view versus the Kids'/Themed view.

  5. We would like to have LEAP Patron message show up in Vega Discover not just in the PAC, an example of something like this or it popping up when a patron logs into VEGA would be great.

  6. The art is an important element to identifying and connecting with a title. It should be included in the edition display

  7. When trying to export a bookmarked list to your email, it doesn't actually export anything to your email. Instead, you're sent a link that just takes you back to your bookmark list in Vega.

It would be helpful to have Vega actually export a text-based list to your email. Example in the picture is of the email you receive with the link back to Vega.

  9. It would be great if the Syndetics summaries were accessible in Vega. In Encore we had Content Café, and clicking on the book cover returned a page like the one below. Patrons (and staff) really miss summaries on future release books we don’t have summary information for.

  10. One of our member libraries mentioned this as a possible feature request for Vega Discover.

They stated, "A great would be if you can click the library name to display item availability if under the location drop down if you can also display the library address and phone number. This would make it easy to click the phone number to call the library to check on real time status of an item for patrons etc. Very useful for staff and patrons!

Let's also have the library address be a clickable link that hops into google maps to navigate to the…

  11. I have had a couple of libraries ask me about this:

will we be able to use the abbreviations from advanced search like in Encore in Vega? i.e. c:117 limits to my library, f:a. I use that all the time to help patrons and find resources quicker both in Sierra and Encore.

    For further clarity:

Some libraries like to use the shortcut codes—once you know them, it’s faster and easier than using the facets to narrow down your search.

In her example, she’s using the Encore advanced search, limiting the format to books and to her collection. When you do…

  12. This is a combination of 2 ideas: Patrons would like to share lists they've created, and some patrons like to "Follow" others. We could create a new world of library "influencers" such as what is on social media, by having "Library Influencers" - those with over x number of followers. Patrons could select who they want to follow, and lists could be shared over social platforms.

  13. We are still at the stage where we have to request search statistics, and the data is somewhat limited in nature:

Currently, the two types of statistical overviews available are:

    1. A count of all visits* to any page over the desired time period.

    2. A count of all visits* to search results that were done over the desired time period.

*The reports don't call them visits; they are called visitors. No idea if they are unique visitors?

There are pageviews (down in lower right of screen shot) but support staff doesn't always include this information, seem to focus on just sending…

  14. When a patron goes into a list of bookmarks, the default sort order is oldest first. I would prefer it if the resources I just added appear at the top of the list without having to scroll or re-sort.

  16. When a patron gets no results and gets either the "did you mean?" or the search tips pages, would like a way to include some customized links to other options/services we offer, for example, our Interlibrary Loan and our Book Match services. Many patrons have no idea that if we don't own a title, we can get it for them via ILL. Or if they are just searching on a topic and not getting anything, perhaps our Book Match service may do the trick. Or just to tell users to speak with a reference librarian.

  17. When 856 links exist, display them when the appropriate tab is selected in the roll-up within search results. Currently, the links only display on the format tab after you open the title resource page.

  18. We have the ability to turn off "Other books in the series" in our Syndetics settings which turns off the gray covers for items not owned in that section, but unfortunately we have no way to turn off just the "Similar Series" section of "You May also Like" without also turning off the "Top Picks" for individual titles in the "You May also Like" section. We would like "Top Picks" to be separate from "Similar Series" in the settings for "You May Also Like" so we can turn off one without turning off the other.

  19. While testing out editing patron information in Vega, we ran across an issue. The mobile phone number field in the patron record edit maps to the 'o' field which we use in Sierra as a parent name field. It would make more sense to map to 'p' (telephone2) for us.

    Current Workflow

    1. The patron logs into Vega Discover.
    2. From their profile, they edit their information to add/edit a Mobile phone number.
    3. That phone number is mapping to Sierra's 'o' field

  20. There are times when it makes sense to edit the pickup location text or reorganize the listing. Our consortia central offices processes ILL requests for the correctional facilities in our region and also recieves items in delivery for cataloging and staff requests. We are not open to the public. The pickup location is necessary as a selection, but we would like to move it to the end of the list and label it with "Staff Use Only", as we did in Encore. Another example is a temporary closure or access issue that could be communicated at the time of selection
