  1. Polaris (Leap and PAC) support the ability for a patron to opt to receive both an email AND text message or a phone call AND text message using the "additional text" checkbox feature. However, Vega only supports patrons selecting a single preferred notification method.

    Patrons often opt in to dual notifications at registration, but their Discover profile won't reflect the notifications they actually will receive. This is likely to create confusion and frustration for patrons as well as limiting the use of a valuable Polaris feature.

  2. Staff use the catalog to pull materials for displays and storytimes, and sorting by author or title doesn't do them any good when looking in Non-Fiction, or when looking across multiple collections. For example, if they were looking for display items for Dragons they are going to be possibly in a few different Dewey numbers as well as in all the subsets of fiction, so running a search and being able to sort by call number would help them find the items as efficiently as possible.

  3. When placing a hold on a title with multiple volumes, a screen pops up asking "Which Volume/Issue Would You Like To Request?". The volumes are then sorted by digit rather than numerically. So, for example, Vega Discover sorts as follows:

    This makes it more difficult for the patron to go right to the volume they would like to request.

  5. For Hero Carousels, when you add a showcase there's no option to display the showcase title. Having just the image doesn't give context for patrons to know what that leads them to. We would like the option to include the showcase title with each picture.

  6. It would be nice if adult books (even those with relatively low reading levels) returned Reading Level readalikes of other adult books (rather than j titles). James Patterson's "The House of Kennedy" is an adult title, Vega indicates that the publisher's recommended age and grade range is 18+ years, yet the reading level suggestions include Dog Man/Pilkey and the Good Egg/Jory John

  7. I received the following from a school superintendent in our service area, and I think this would be a beneficial enhancement to Vega for students and school staff:

    We store the Lexile level in our local student information system. This means that pretty easily, we could show the parents their kid's level, then link to the two local library districts with some instructions on how to filter and search. But as I shared, they still have to do a lot of clicking to get to that screen where they can filter on level and subject.

  8. It would be much more helpful for us if we saw the current default icons for each format type when we look at the "ILS Material Type to Work Level Roll Up Mapping" chart (see attached). We have no way of knowing what the "default" icon is for some of these formats, so we would have to do a search one by one in grid view to see what each format is by default. The chart should display the current default icon either next to or instead of the word "default" and there could be an option at the top…

  10. Our libraries do not use the Always Show a Call Number Option. We only want a call number to display if it's the expected library for the patron. Because of this the Find a Copy link does not always appear if only a few libraries have the item. We would like it to show consistently as removing it creates an extra step & an inconsistent experience when browsing. Clicking on "Find a copy" is helpful even if only a few libraries have the item since it pulls up the whole list of libraries that own the item and doing so…

  11. This will help staff let patrons know where the notice will be sent when placing a hold on their behalf. It will also show patrons where to expect the notice to be sent to when they place holds.

    The red box in the attached screenshot would say the following:

    "Notice will be emailed (or texted to): ***"

Currently if a copy isn't available at the pickup location of any edition in a multi-edition rollup in Vega Discover, the holds logic dictates that it will look next for any edition with a copy available at the patron's home library, then for the edition with the most available copies, then if no copies are available, for the edition with the best holds:copies ratio.

    The libraries with branches in our consortium would like the holds logic to look at availability of editions at their BRANCHES next if the pickup library has branches but doesn't own any editions themself. Also, they…

  13. Currently the only direct links to specific patron account tabs that are to Checkout, Holds, Fines and Fees, and Profile. There should be permanently available links to the other top-level tabs within My Bookshelf: Bookmarks, Saved Searches, and Reading History.

  14. We noticed that Discover users focus on the “On the shelf” list and miss “Find a Copy”. We would like to submit a feature request to have “Find a Copy” more prominently displayed. The three ways to do this in order of preference:

    1. Above “On the shelf” reversing the two locations + larger icon and font
    2. Next to “On the shelf” so both are on the same line + larger icon and font
    3. Larger icon and font where it currently resides on the page

  15. We generally prefer serial bibs for multi-volume graphic novels over individual bibs for each volume. Syndetics doesn't seem to understand this set-up. Only the first volume in the series is in color, while the other volumes (which are reflected as ISBNs in the serial bib, and as item records) are grayed-out. This is misleading to patrons. Syndetics should recognize our holdings from all the ISBNs in the bib record.

In Encore, we could leverage scopes we had created in Sierra to create a quick way to search a group of nearby libraries-for instance, Quad Cities area libraries, Rockford area libraries, Henry County libraries, etc. In Vega, there is no quick way to do this. It would be great to have a way to create location groups in specific collection sites so that patrons can have this "shortcut" available to them again.

  17. We often re-use images for our Vega home page, specifically the Hero, and there is no way to quickly access those images - you are forced to upload again and again. For example, maybe we opt to promote/use one of our Hero images every 3 months for a particular service. When you go to promote that service again, you have to try and find the artwork you stored locally again, upload.   18. Showcase cover art has the flexibility to expand and contract across various sizes, resulting in a challenging navigation experience when displaying these items. To enhance user experience, consider either enforcing a consistent display size for cover art or, at the very least, maintaining uniform sizes for all showcases.   19. the library would like patrons to be able to see patrons that are linked in Sierra. For instance, to allow a patron to renew their kids items under their Juvenile accounts, in bulk at once or flipping to that account view for renewing without re-logging in, or see and/or pay their fines, etc, because the accounts are linked in Sierra.

In the Location Drawer, there is a search box that offers the user a place to narrow the results based on call number, edition date, etc. When the user changes the location, the results update to the desired location and the search term(s) is retained in the search box, but the results don't reflect the inclusion of the search term.
