  3. Our consortium is in the process of implementing Vega Discover. We currently use Polaris.

We recently noticed there is a blank Message field under each title’s Edition information in Vega (screenshot attached) and asked our implementation team about it.

Turns out, it only applies to Sierra libraries and there is no corresponding field for it in Polaris. Currently, we are not able to hide or remove it.

Since this field does not apply for Polaris libraries, and would always be blank, we would very much like the option to hide it from view or remove it completely.

  4. The 'Your Next Read' showcase in the customer Account Portal should pull from the customer's History (reading and/or checkout) instead of pulling from Bookmarks and saved searches. Not too many of our customers use either bookmarks or saved searches, but most opt in for saving reading history. Pulling from history would provide a much better service to customers IMHO.

  5. Library users want to be able to see a "freeze" and a "cancel" button when working with individual holds. The original idea for this topic was closed after the July 2026 upgrade, but the behaviour has not changed. I have attached an image.

Also, library users do not want to select drop down menus to manage their individual holds. The ability to freeze, cancel, or edit pickup location should be individual selections.

  6. When adding books to a booklist, we want to be able to annotate the overall list and individual titles so that customers will know the purpose of the list and how the individual titles fit into that theme/purpose. Quick annotations definitely help people decide which titles they would like to borrow.

  7. Sometimes the site name given to a collection or kiosk at creation ends up not being useful or accurate later on.

Before the patron portal, only staff could see these names so the problem was limited, but now that patrons can choose a default collection, the unchangeable site names are exposed.

Issues that would be fixed by this: typos in site names, test sites turned into real sites, collections and kiosks with the same name making user management confusing.

Deleting and re-creating is not easy because the sites may already be configured with staff permissions, homepages, settings, etc. that would…

  8. Several of our libraries collect materials in Hebrew, and almost all of those items have a danacode as a unique identifier. Some also have an ISBN but many don't, and their only identifier is the danacode, which is found in the 024 (with first indicator 7 in most cases, but sometimes 8 when the 'scannable' danacode is listed also).

However, when you try to search Vega by danacode, it doesn't work. It works without any problems in Polaris and in the old PAC.

A previous idea that was completed (for 024 3) stated: "As we see it, the obvious solution…

  9. Please enlarge the back button on the resource page. We have several reports from customers that they just don't know what to do when they land on the resource page. There are other ideas to add breadcrumbs on this page or add facets, but can at least the "back" button be more prominent?

  10. We would like to make the color of the search icon and other icons that have the same orange color to be customizable. This would increase the possibility to create the same look and feel that the other websites of our city have.

  11. Offer a setting in Vega Admin to restrict access to third-party content (e.g., CloudLibrary) by patron code, such as controlling visibility and/or buttons to place holds and checkout.

    Problem
The vendor records are ingested into Vega, but access restrictions enforced in the vendor’s app and website are not applied in Vega. As a result, certain patron codes can still place holds and check out digital items. When they visit the vendor's app/website, they are not granted access to the item.

    These patron codes:

Are not permitted to access our digital library (e.g., CloudLibrary).
Are permitted to use the catalog and…

  12. When updating the Vega Admin closure dates for locations, the dates seem to be fixed in the order that they were created. It would be helpful to sort these by either date added or date of closure.

It would also be helpful to automatically hide the closure dates in the past. This is beneficial in our other platforms, including Library Market, our website calendar with Granicus, our Google Business pages, etc.

  13. Libraries that use SIP2 (requiring barcode and PIN) for Overdrive authentication have found that eContent Integration with Overdrive fails when enabled in Vega Discover. Customers cannot borrow or reserve Overdrive titles directly from Vega because Overdrive requires both barcode and PIN for the checkout process, and Vega Discover cannot send the Patron's PIN (it is encrypted in Sierra and not available to send).
Admittedly, expecting Vega to send encrypted patron PINs to Overdrive when the patron is already authenticated in Vega is an unrealistic and unsafe idea. Innovative support have already said that this issue is primarily a limitation of…

  14. We've always used static image collages that mimic Vega's showcase carousels on our Vega Discover homepages. This approach helps us maintain a consistent visual style, especially when cover jackets occasionally appear that don’t match the look and feel we want to present in our catalog. Ideally, we’d love a way to feature specific titles in carousels—with the ability for them to drop off automatically once they're no longer relevant—while still ensuring the layout stays cohesive. Below is an example of one of our static image panels. Allow us to "favorite" titles in our lists somehow through Vega Discover or within…

  15. This is related to the suggestion "All metadata and content displayed for a work should use the same instance ISBN", but more specifically I'm seeing a problem with movies with different release years, but the same title (and same DVD publisher).

I can see this making sense for certain things - for example a book like The Grapes of Wrath, which we have several different editions of. The text is basically the same - there may be different forewords or other supplementary material, but for the most part it's less likely that a patron will be choosy about which edition…

  16. When staff members create a patron account in Polaris, our default notification preference is email. We'd like the ability to disable or hide the "No preference selected" option from Discover so patrons are forced to select one of our supported notification methods.

  17. Currently when someone applies through our Vega link (which goes to PowerPAC) for a library card and their name matches an existing cardholder, they get the following error message: "A patron with this name is already registered. Please contact the library for clarification."

It would be helpful if other fields could be cross-checked for duplicates, not just the first and last names. We receive numerous reports of this monthly from staff across the consortium, but we have no sense of how often it's actually happening.

  18. This functionality is available in WebPAC and Encore and is a core feature of Sierra to the discover layer.
Please make this visible in the patron's Vega account for full parity, otherwise the Message to Borrower field
    in Sierra becomes moot.

  19. It is great to have the ability to schedule content for Vega Home Page. This could be even better if scheduling for Hero Carousel elements was more flexible. Ideally, it would be nice to be able to schedule individual Hero images to be added and removed from the carousel independently.

I would like to be able to schedule the hero block to display always (or for a defined period) and then assign dates for different images included to be added and removed within it independently.

If that isn't possible, please add the ability to copy/clone a hero carousel so that…

  20. When looking at an item record in Vega Discover, patrons should be able to right click on titles to open in a new tab (e.g., in the list of You May Also Like, Related Resources, Topics, etc.). Right now, patrons have to click on the title to open the record, see if we have it and where it's located. If they want to look at another title, they have to use the back button then wait for the page to refresh again, scroll down, and repeat.
