  1. Our staff would like the ability to add a description to Showcases, in addition to the detail described in the Showcase title. I've attached an example from another discovery layer.

  2. Please enable ProQuest database customers to seamlessly search their databases within Vega Discover without the need for creating placeholder bib record redirect links. The ultimate objective is to allow patrons to conduct searches for items such as historical newspaper titles and receive relevant search results from our catalog, along with direct links to ProQuest Historical Newspapers databases associated with their search queries.

    Third-party databases would also be fantastic but I'm sticking to Clarivate owned products for now.

  5. Staff use the catalog to pull materials for displays and storytimes, and sorting by author or title doesn't do them any good when looking in Non-Fiction, or when looking across multiple collections. For example, if they were looking for display items for Dragons they are going to be possibly in a few different Dewey numbers as well as in all the subsets of fiction, so running a search and being able to sort by call number would help them find the items as efficiently as possible.

  6. When a patron is logged into Vega on their My Bookshelf profile, three options are displayed under location. We would like the ability to mask either Home Library or Registered Library Branch. Both options are usually the same for our patrons so we would like the ability to mask one of these options to avoid confusion. See the attached photo of the three current locations displayed when a patron is viewing their profiles in Vega.

  7. Our patrons who speak and read other languages need to be able to see our world language material records in their own language, including the 264 information, not just the title, author, and series. For Chinese materials, our users can distinguish Traditional Chinese materials from Simplified Chinese materials by checking the place of publication, and they can only do this if they can see that info in their language. As pictured in the screenshots, the old PAC shows the transliteration AND vernacular script, whereas Vega only shows the transliteration. Our users need to see both.

  8. When viewing holds, can it be more clear to patrons when they’re unclaimed? It currently doesn't show that the pickup date has passed or call it Unclaimed, it just says that they're "0 - Waiting".

  9. When an item is checked out through a third-party digital resource, like Overdrive/Libby, that is not included in our catalog it displays strangely. The list of digital items that aren't included in our catalog is extensive and forever increasing. I've included a screenshot of how it is displayed in the account records on Vega.

    It would be helpful if these items displayed in a way that was less confusing. Perhaps just simply calling it "Digital Item" would be fine.

  10. Improve the capabilities of the mini search feature that only looks at the patron's reading history. We've had patrons mention some minor odd things like being unable to find a work in their reading history when searching by the author's first name + last name (only last name + first name order works). Also, mixing keywords from the title and author fields or using keywords from the title out of sequence fail to return results.

  12. I should preface this with the understanding that we can build our own help page and direct traffic there. However, the built-in Vega Help section contains fantastic material and is most likely updated with any new deployments of Vega Discovery. We'd love to have the ability to leverage those pieces while still maintaining our own branding, customized text, customized imagery, embedding Vega Guide, and adding alternative sources such as Niche Academy video tutorials.

  13. Some patrons have difficulty understanding where to find their account details after logging in. For some, it is not intuitive to click on their names, or the numbers associated with the holds/checkouts/fines. Please add a few more prompts or cues to make it easier for patrons to access their accounts.

  14. Give a Library the ability to exclude locations by default in the search results. For example, a Library may be far enough away that materials from that location are essentially unavailable. If they could be excluded it would help with preventing patron confusion and frustration.

  15. Currently, eBooks and eAudiobooks on order/not yet published from OverDrive do not show up as such in Vega. They show up as ‘checked out’, which is confusing for patrons, especially when these books are MONTHS from being released. Add additional eContent status to reflect titles that are coming soon.

  16. Discover's hold management button offers the option to 'freeze' a hold when an item has already been trapped and held for the hold request. Our ILS (Polaris) does not offer the option to freeze holds when a hold is already in held status, so this will always fail. The default error message the patron gets is "Freeze failed. Try again." That message is misleading because trying again will never work. However, the language string is used for ANY failed freeze, so if you edit it, you have to edit it to something clunky like "Freeze failed. Item may be in…

In many cases, the character spacing we use when cataloging in Korean is not the same as the character spacing someone searching in Korean will use, even though the meaning is the same in these cases despite the differences in spacing. The spacing we use when cataloging is dictated by Library of Congress rules, however, a Korean speaker won't know those rules and will type the search in the way that makes sense to them.

  18. Currently, the summary from the 520 field is displaying on the full resource card and dynamically updating by format, which is great. However, the subfield c is hidden, so anytime there is a subfield c present, there are simply two dashes at the end of the summary, suggesting that there might be something missing or cut off (which there is, in fact). Can the subfield c please be displayed along with the summary?

  19. The amount of characters for the title and author names is limited (exact number seems to vary) and they are therefore not being completely displayed in Showcases. Can this be increased so in more cases the full title and name is displayed?

  20. Vega Discover allows patrons to choose individual fines they would like to pay but doesn't allow a patron to pay simply a set amount of their fines. Patrons would sometimes like to just pay a portion of their fines that will allow them to continue using the library. Add a feature that lets the patron enter the fine amount they want to pay of their total and have that portion deducted from their total fines.
