  1. We'd like to have ability to change the mapping of the Audn: Target audience (BKS, COM, REC, SCO, VIS: 008/22; 006/05) to a specific age group facet. For example, many catalog records have a blank assigned for target audience. Search results will include these records but they fall out when the "general" facet is selected. We do not want to manipulate these records to "g" when [blank] is a valid option. Also, we'd like the ability to group the target audience a (preschool), b (primary), and c (pre-adolescent) under j (juvenile) without manipulating the catalog records in our database.

  2. Patrons are accustomed to viewing their holds in order of the date the hold was placed. Ideally, they would want this as the default, but we thought it might be better to give patrons an option of how these display by adding the date the hold was placed to the Sort feature in Holds in MyBookshelf.

  3. Patrons and staff wonder why Vega Discover requires them to type the author’s full name and doesn’t use a wildcard, for example, to extrapolate the end of the author’s name. The current search only works if the author name matches exactly.

For example, if someone is searching for books by Daniel Kalla:
    Kalla - 19 results
    Kalla D - 0 results
    Kalla Dan - 0 results
    Kalla Daniel - 15 results

  4. Please work with libraries to determine a way to add an "on order" facet. We ingest all bibliographic records before we receive the physical copies. Library users can also place holds on these "on order" bibliographic records. Library users want to distinguish between "recently received" by the library and "recently ordered" by the library.

  5. Patrons using laptops with smaller display resolutions are finding the limited height of the account display frustrating, as they can only see one item at a time and scrolling via touchpad can be difficult. Many have asked if an option to extend the display to cover the full height of the screen could be made available.

  6. We would like to see a new format of "Graphic Novel" which would not roll up with other books that have the same title and author. It could use the fixed fields in the MARC record when the 008 is for books with a 6 in "Nature of contents" (positions 24-27). This would help prevent us from having to add our own manufactured subtitles just to get certain graphic novels to stop rolling up with the book version.

  7. Currently, Vega sorts book, eBook, large print, audio CD, and eAudio. I'm proposing we change this to book, large print, audio CD, then digital resources. Most patrons search for digital media via Libby rather than the main online catalog.

Additionally, putting DVDs before Blu-Ray would help lower the amount of patrons accidentally ordering Blu-Ray when they really wanted the DVD. Re-ordering this would lower the amount of accidental hold requests for the wrong media type.

  9. It could help patrons with extensive reading histories (e.g. patrons using outreach services for retirement homes etc.) improve their discovery journey when they are logged in, if items from their reading history were somehow denoted in search results as, for example, "already borrowed" or "borrowed in the past".

  10. In a consortia, especially one with many member libraries that share patrons, it is important for users to be able to move from the main/parent domain instance of Discover to one of the individual library sites and also to be able to navigate between member library sites. This is functionality currently available in the Polaris PAC and heavily used.

  11. Permanent link to Vega records. When records are changed, the Vega ID changes and thus the link changes resulting in broken links. Please create permanent links for Vega records that aren't affected by changes to the item or bib records in Polaris.

  12. Discover should be able to handle a numerical comma in a title. We received a patron complaint that they couldn't find the title 20,000 Leagues under the sea. They were searching (correctly) with the comma in "20,000" (see this search: https://ada-lynx.na3.iiivega.com/search?query=20,000%20leagues%20under%20the%20sea&searchType=everything&pageSize=10). When searched as "20000", all the results properly come up (see https://ada-lynx.na3.iiivega.com/search?query=20000%20leagues%20under%20the%20sea&searchType=everything&pageSize=10). This is very difficult to explain to both the public and to the staff when our old PAC gives results to that without issue.

  13. We need to be able to search by song title when searching for music cds or for sheet music books.
It also its hard not be able to see the track listing for compilation albums (the Now cds for instance).
We have patrons complain about this weekly.

  14. We understand that we are already supposed to be able to place volume level holds on materials. (It's not working for us, even when we have the volume info entered correctly, so we have reported it as a bug.) However, our staff and patrons would also like the ability for patrons to be able to place item level holds when there is NO volume info entered and the record is NOT a periodical or other serial.

  17. Patrons currently lack the ability to add or modify the "username" field value (Polaris Registration field with Polaris) in Vega Discover. Historically, patrons had this capability, but after updating to Vega Discover, we disabled it due to its non-editable nature. However, due to significant feedback from patrons, we have re-enabled this feature. Please note that enabling it now requires manual IT intervention through SQL adjustments. Once we transition to a hosted environment, this manual adjustment will no longer be feasible. Therefore, it's crucial for patron access to our catalog, public machines, and express check that this functionality remains intact.

  18. We would like to have shelf location added as a facet in Vega in addition to collections. We use shelf locations for genres like Mystery, Urban Fiction, Science Fiction, and Graphic Novels that aren't reflected in our collection codes. There is currently no way for patrons to search by shelf location in Vega, so it's very frustrating for patrons trying to look for just Graphic Novels, for example. We would rather have shelf locations added as a facet than have to change all of our shelf locations to collections.

  20. Most patrons probably don't add apostrophes when searching (some do, some don't). We suggest it be taken out as a variable effecting the search results in basic search. In advanced search it can be included exactly as typed, but for the basic search it may do more harm than good. Please see the attached examples.
