  1. A patron was trying to do a password reset, and we had to use the old PAC to realize that they had no email address in their account, since the messaging there clearly states the issue. Vega Discover just says the email 'failed to send'. Please update this messaging to more closely match the old PAC.

  2. The current Vega On Order logic allows the library to select Material Types that will show a status of On Order when there are no items attached. The problem is that for older titles sometimes all the attached items have a status that we suppress from display because it's not useful to the patrons such as: Missing, Withdrawn, Damaged, Lost, etc. These items, because they are suppressed from display will cause this title to show up as ON ORDER when it's actually not and may be weeded from the collection soon.   3. We need to be able to search by song title when searching for music cds or for sheet music books.
    It also its hard not be able to see the track listing for compilation albums (the Now cds for instance).
    We have patrons complain about this weekly.

In a consortia, especially one with many member libraries that share patrons, it is important for users to be able to move from the main/parent domain instance of Discover to one of the individual library sites and also to be able to navigate between member library sites. This is functionality currently available in the Polaris PAC and heavily used.

  5. Permanent link to Vega records. When records are changed, the Vega ID changes and thus the link changes resulting in broken links. Please create permanent links for Vega records that aren't affected by changes to the item or bib records in Polaris.

  6. Many Discover sites have two URLs:

    • Site URL (sitename.region.iiivega.com)
    • Custom URL

    For example, ours are:

    • berg.na4.iiivega.com
    • search.bccls.org

    We would like a true redirect to exist from iiivega.com to the custom one that is fully supported by Innovative and to have all activity such as login sessions persist, so there is a seamless transition.

    While some libraries have customized this themselves to get it to work, we would like it to exist as an option in Vega Admin that is fully supported out of the box.

  7. Patrons currently lack the ability to add or modify the "username" field value (Polaris Registration field with Polaris) in Vega Discover. Historically, patrons had this capability, but after updating to Vega Discover, we disabled it due to its non-editable nature. However, due to significant feedback from patrons, we have re-enabled this feature. Please note that enabling it now requires manual IT intervention through SQL adjustments. Once we transition to a hosted environment, this manual adjustment will no longer be feasible. Therefore, it's crucial for patron access to our catalog, public machines, and express check that this functionality remains intact.

  10. Vega has a list of the current New York Times best sellers, which shows up on the detailed title page if you view that for one of the titles on the list (see attached screenshot). It would be great to be able to have this showcase on the library's homepage.

  11. Most patrons probably don't add apostrophes when searching (some do, some don't). We suggest it be taken out as a variable effecting the search results in basic search. In advanced search it can be included exactly as typed, but for the basic search it may do more harm than good. Please see the attached examples.

With multiple records rolling up, sometimes the default cover art image isn't necessarily the most appropriate (i.e. showing a very specific version of Hamlet that not all libraries own rather than a more generic version). Since Vega is pulling the cover art from the record with the most recent copyright/publishing date, the only way to prevent an image from populating is to falsify the 020 in the most recent record (I've been in touch with Syndetics about this).   14. Keep the search bar throughout ALL Discover pages. Similar to Google or any search engine - it should always be at the top and would make searching more convenient because it would avoid having to navigate back to the home page of the catalog.

  15. The filter options that are currently available in Vega don't allow patrons to search by video game platform. We would like to see a new filter or a subfilter for the Format facet that would allow users to refine the search results by console/platform. In our catalog a game like Overcooked, which has multiple editions for Nintendo Switch, XBox, and PlayStation consoles, brings up 14 different results that a patron would need to click into to find the platform for each.   16. 600 Subject added entry - personal name headings are currently displaying as Contributors/Persons. This is making it difficult to find additional resources ABOUT a person. When the person appears in the Subject field, they are not really a contributor, they are the Subject. Displaying these headings as Contributors is confusing. I believe this is on the roadmap but it would be nice to see this addressed sooner than later.

When a patron gets no results and gets either the "did you mean?" or the search tips pages, would like a way to include some customized links to other options/services we offer, for example, our Interlibrary Loan and our Book Match services. Many patrons have no idea that if we don't own a title, we can get it for them via ILL. Or if they are just searching on a topic and not getting anything, perhaps our Book Match service may do the trick. Or just to tell users to speak with a reference librarian.

  18. There's no way to modify the text that appears on the Passcode Reset page for Vega Discover. We've seen some patrons trying to enter their barcode with spaces as it is formatted on their library card which doesn't work. At a minimum, it would be great to indicate on this page to enter "Barcode/Username (no spaces, please)", or even better to have the input field ignore spaces entered. Thanks for the consideration and reducing some of our front line staff headaches.

  19. The following three status are currently used in Vega:

    Available
    Checked Out
    Unavailable

    While Available and Checked Out provide good information for patrons. Unavailable does not. We'd love to be able to map additional Polaris Circulation Statuses either for display or as an addendum to Unvailable.

    Primarily the Polaris Circulation Statuses for Held, On Order, and In Process are valuable at-a-glance information for patrons to have.

    Given that multiple items can be on a single record there would need to be a ranking system for some statuses.

  20. We received an idea to possibly redesign the "Find a Copy" menu so that viewing shelf locations would no longer need the user to click the library that they are searching for resulting in two clicks to see that information.

    "You have to click on the library name itself in order to get a full picture of where an item is. It's an extra unnecessary step"
