  1. Can we get some new skins to choose from for the SDA/Sierra Web?

There are currently two: Half Dome & Glacier Point.

We currently use colors to differentiate between our Production instance of Sierra & our Test version. However, we also have a Training database.

Variety is the spice of life! How about a rose-colored skin, a powder blue, or a "Millennium Green" as an homage to the Millennium database?

  2. As the system administrator overseeing a 54-member library consortium, managing Offline File Processing is a routine responsibility. However, we often encounter delays in processing files because libraries don't consistently notify us when they upload offline files. This results in files remaining unprocessed until the next library contacts us, potentially causing unnecessary checkout delays. If we process the files too many days after uploading, additional errors may occur, making it challenging to track items adequately.

An email notification for Offline File Processing would ensure timely handling of uploaded files. We could proactively monitor file uploads, swiftly process them, and promptly address…

  3. We require certain information to create a library card, however Sierra does not enforce this requirement at the system level. Since it isn't mandatory, some data simply never gets captured and creates more work on the backend.

Beyond that, having certain information in the record would allow us to build a better understanding of our usership so that we can make better decisions as an organization.

I especially would love the ability to require any and all of the fixed-length fields; especially patron category, birthdate, home library, and notice preference.

  4. It would be very helpful to be able to print a Statement of Charges directly from a patron record (and have it formatted for 8-1/2 x 11 paper and mail-ready).

For context, we are a 138-library consortium, all notices are Auto Notices, and we do not run Statement of Charges for the consortium. Yes, you can run a statement for 1 patron in the Notices function, but this requires consortium staff intervention since that permission is locked down to consortium staff. It would be much simpler for our member libraries to be able to print such a statement on an…

  5. When going through various Headings Reports, we'll end up reviewing the same bib record that has multiple first-time-use entries throughout the report. It would be nice if they could be sorted by the bib record to reduce staff time and stay in the same record as long as needed.

Perhaps the bib record could be pulled from the Entry column and inserted into a new column in the display that could then be sorted like the other available columns.

  6. Notify user when a patron linked to the current patron has holds available for pickup. This would eliminate the need to check individual accounts. The also eliminates having a patron leave without all the available holds for that family.

  7. The current documentation on loan rules, loan rule determiner, and float determiner table is very limited, and training on these important functions do not exist within Innovative's training & learning center. More comprehensive documentation with examples would help libraries better manage loan rules, and perhaps simplify how libraries' existing rules are setup.

  8. When working in a Sierra bib record, I would like to click on the author, series and subject fields so I can see a list of records that have those same authors, series, and subjects. Encore has this capability. I would like to see it in Sierra.

  9. Have the results of Manage Holds automatically emailed each morning.

This would let staff pick holds even if they don't have Sierra open or available. The automated emails could be set up within the Manage Holds function itself, or could be accomplished if Scheduler worked with Manage Holds (right now Scheduler only works with Create Lists and Data Exchange).

  10. We have had a number of instances recently in which a vendor has requested SQL access in order for us to utilize there services. We are hesitant to allow for that (and have policies against it) due to the quantity of secure data that would also provide access to.

What we need is a way to provide lesser SQL access to particular users to allow them to tap into only the relevant tables (bibs & items for some. Circ_trans and patrons for others).

Beyond the vendor scenario it would also be fantastic to provide limited access to more of our…

  11. Libraries should have the option to exclude frozen holds from the total holds queue that appears in any catalogue.

    Benefits:

    1) Customers will have a better idea of where they are in the hold queue.
We encourage customer-driven hold management, and customers have told us that they want an estimate of when their holds will be filled.
This is especially true when customers place multiple hold on titles within a series.

    2) Customers will not see inflated hold queues and provide feedback to the Library that they should purchase more copies.

    3) Customers could make an education decision on whether…

  12. As ILS administrators of a large consortium, we would like the RFID Server Options Table to have an additional field/column to add notes (library name, dates, staff initials). When one of our member libraries needs to change RFID entries, we sort through nearly 200 lines to determine which one needs updating. Many entries use IPs without identifying library information. We must read through old library correspondence to discern which IPs belong to the library. This task takes up valuable time when we are trying to assist a library with troubleshooting or adding and removing entries.

    An additional free-text field to…

  13. Our library uses the icode1 field as a statistical category code. We'd like to be able to define our icode1 values, with codes and labels stored in Sierra and visible to staff. Currently we keep a list of codes and their meanings stored in a shared drive and have to share it with our cataloguers. Staff can see the "stat category" field in item records, but there's no translation anywhere in Sierra and the userdefinedicode1_myuser SQL view is blank.

  14. Currently Decision Center only returns data for a location parameter if there was activity for the selected time period and does not return a zero placeholder for locations without activity. This creates extra work for staff when working with the resulting Excel files. They can't easily reference the cells in Excel consistently.

  15. When a user is in the Cataloging workflow, the "Due Date" column in the "Item" view is sorted as a string instead of a date, eg "1-01-2023" comes before "9-01-2021". It would be helpful for this to be sorted as a date and match the sorting of the "Due Date" column in the "Holds" view.

  16. We would like to see more specific permissions on items records to allow staff who don't have access to edit entire item records to be able to do basic things like add and delete item messages or change the status of the item.

Frontline staff are discovering outdated item messages or finding that items are missing, and it's inefficient for them to have to contact someone else to change the status of the item, or delete an item message attached to it.

  17. Allow for Global Update of fund codes. I work in an academic library and will often get purchase lists from our liaison librarians for a specific department. The records are brought in and the attached order records are edited in GU with the correct vendor, and selector, etc. It would be a time-saver if I could also update the fund code (which are tied to academic departments) at the same time.

  18. The current "Frozen Holds" function in WebPAC does not allow for patrons to select a date at which they want their holds to be "unfrozen". Staff have the ability to set a "Not Wanted Before" date on behalf of the patron, but there is currently have no way to modify the date of a frozen hold on behalf of a patron in the Sierra Desktop App. SDA should have the option to change that date once frozen by the patron, in the event the patron cannot unfreeze it themselves.

Staff feedback: "We've had a lot of patron confusion around freeze…

  19. Analysis of holds is often requested by managers keen to see what users are requesting and how much material is going where across multiple sites.

However a lot of detailed information on holds in the SQL tables is transitory e.g. hold, hold_removed.

I have long thought that it would be helpful to include hold pickup location in circ_trans, which provides a historic perspective and can be downloaded and/or adjusted to capture longer time frames.

This would enable data and analysis which is not possible currently.

  20. One of the best features within Mobile worklists is the ability to easily edit item records from a mobile device. However, this feature ignores the scoping feature in the Sierra client that prevents one location within a consortia from make edits to items belonging to a different location. Due to this, we are unable to provide access to this feature to our members.

Mobile worklists should follow the same permission limits as the client and enforce scoped item editing.
