  1. The Invoice Summary that is sent after posting invoices only lists the voucher number. Our Finance department has to go through the Invoice Register and match the invoice number to the voucher number to know what invoices should be paid. This is very time consuming, and susceptible to human error. Please consider adding the invoice number to the Invoice Summary.

  2. As a default suppressed records are not included in the harvest stream. This becomes an issue when a harvested record later becomes suppressed in Sierra as the harvester does not know to remove it from its listings as its omission from the stream does not allow for identification of its suppressed state. I would recommend that the option to include suppressed records should be configurable as a harvest stream level, giving the library the ability to configure the inclusion/exclusion dependent on their business rules.

  3. Why is it important to link patrons?

    • Without linked patron functionality someone that is authorized to pick up a hold on another account is complicated. This is manually done by staff using patron notes, and the authorized patron signs out the book leaving the original hold on the other patron record.
    • Parents visiting the library with children would like to jump to the record of each child rather than using the child’s cards.

Current privacy and circulation workflow issues:

    • Someone could link to the child record without authorization. If a patron is sharing their circulation details with someone, they should…

  4. Staff would like to see the ability to sort results retrieved from queries performed in Sierra's Search/Holds mode.

Say for example they do a keyword search for Star Wars at our Forest Park branch. 124 items are found. The results are displayed alphabetically by default. But if the staff member wants to quickly sort by DVDs, they can't even click on the Format column heading, as it exists currently.

While they can run multiple limits to narrow down the results by format, language, shelving location, publication date, etc., they might just as equally be inclined to SORT the entire list…

  5. During the Circulation Forum at this week's IUG, a few libraries brought up their continued interest in going fine free, but also shared how they still faced challenges within their respective institutions from those who felt materials would not come back.

This is a realistic concern, especially for libraries that couple going fine free with the protracted loan periods made possible by autorenewals. It can sometimes be challenging to get customers to return things, so we appreciate the availability of patron blocks that will prevent checkouts, renewals, etc., but not penalize a customer financially, like the ability to suspend borrowing…

  6. The automated tool employed by Clarivate support to update iii and iii-root passwords every 30 days has an 8 character limit, which falls short of PCI requirements (15 characters). The Sierra application server, which hosts the web page connecting to PayPal is in scope for PCI, and therefore login credentials that can edit that web page need passwords of 15 characters or more.

  7. I know that there is a product called External Patron Images that would allow patron photos to display in their records. I am wondering if a similar product exists for documents (such as PDF)? For some of our lending items, patrons must sign a user waiver to agree to the terms and conditions, and we currently have a two step process to verify if this has happened each time they come in. It would be good to be able to add the scanned image of the waiver to a patron record for easier verification.

  8. One of the major advantages of Sierra is it's flexibility. Particularly the Sierra fixed fields. Sierra allows those fixed fields to be used in non-standard ways, but the API loader does not have that flexibility. If you try to load records with unexpected data with the API, the load will fail. The API MARC loader does not have to validate MARC. Sierra has never really validated MARC. Don't start now. The API should allow the same weird non-standard data as the rest of Sierra.

  9. Libraries use Decision Center to determine what is not circulating or what has been at the Branch for a long time without circulating.

The new "item status date" added in Sierra 6.0 could help Decision Center identify items that were moved to a branch but have not been checked out (eg. items get to the new branch by using CIRCA's item status change from "checked in" > "in transit" > and then are checked in at the new branch)

Reports that would benefit from this would be the Maintenance Report or any report that lists a "created date" and "last…

  10. We're interested in evaluating how well our Floating Collections are performing to see if it's benefiting specific locations or ranking specific location codes preferably, but not necessarily limited to, change of circ or transit wait time post-float at branches to determine what should and shouldn't float for that branch going forward based on past performance. Besides the drought report in Decision Center, this information appears to be lacking. We'd like for reporting capabilities to be added to its data to help inform decision-making in terms of tweaking Floating Collections location codes to keep and which to return to non-Floating going…

  11. In order to make webpac can link to the LC Name Authority File,
it is needed to separate the link of MARC 100, 110, 600, 610, 700, 710.

    For example : https://cylis.lib.cycu.edu.tw/record=b3104334
    Separate the AUTHOR name link
    "Hull, John, 1946- author. http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n88011278"
to "Hull, John, 1946- author." and "http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n88011278" .

And then patrons can click the url "http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n88011278" to see the LC Name Authority File.

  13. Sierra does not preserve any applied sorts after a "Notices Job" Edit dialog is closed. Instead, jobs are re-sorted by job number. This makes it difficult to keep track of which jobs have been reviewed, and generally contributes to unnecessary frustration in the Notices function.

This improvement is related to "Arrange Saved Notice jobs" suggested by Kathy Setter, but instead of applying a custom arrangement I am asking for persistence on a short-term basis:
    https://ideas.iii.com/forums/951745-ils-sierra/suggestions/46677958-arrange-saved-notice-jobs

    Rationale:
When making changes to multiple notice jobs at once, it is often necessary to sort notice jobs (e.g., by template, location, or "auto") to…

  14. I had first suggested this over a decade ago when at another library that was struggling how to balance its combination of branch & research library users & the sort of requests they might make. While no longer there, I still see it as a potentially useful means for staff to develop their request processes & create limits within limits.

What I'd like to see is the ability to not only set a hold threshold, but as is the case for the Max Items A-D allowed as applied to checkouts, allow a similar breakdown for holds.

    Optimally, this would allow…

  15. Currently, the ability to override a hold block is governed by permission 92.

A hold might be blocked for a number of reasons. Staff might attempt to place more than the max number of holds allowed for a customer. They might place a hold for a customer on an item they already have checked out, etc.

One scenario especially has been problematic for as long as I can remember:

A patron finds an item on the shelf & takes it to a service point to check out. It turns out that this item can satisfy a hold placed by another…

  16. Update the "last checkin" field every time an item is checked in. Now, when you check in an item, the "last checkin" field is not updated if the item is not checked out. I don't know of any reason to not update it. When I look at an item record, I want to know the last date that the item was seen; this can be useful in tracking down items that seem to be missing, or coming up with a list of items that might be missing.

  18. At this time it is apparently possible to retrieve the patrons Reading History via REST API sorted by date (oldest first or newest first). The most requested API enhancement request for us is to be able to retrieve the patrons Reading History via REST API sorted by Title. Another enhancement request is to be able to retrieve the patrons Reading History via REST API sorted by Author. This would be useful since users may have hundreds of items in the reading history.

  19. That way other devices such as self checks can show that warning to the patron in the case of them checking out items and having the due date shortened to their expiration date instead of the full borrowing period for the item. If they were alerted they could contact staff to update their account and any item due dates that were shortened to their prior expiration date.

  20. When creating a new customer record from scratch, or when updating & finalizing those submitted through our online application, we have staff perform some checks to prevent duplicate records.

They'll begin by searching the Name index to make sure that there's no pre-existing record for the same name. Then as backup, they'll try searching by birth date or phone number.

However, when you search by birth date or phone number, the results do not come back in alphabetical order, making things a bit harder than they should be for frontline staff. See example image where the search for the DOB…
